POSITION OVERVIEW:

Global Atlantic’s Actuarial Model Production Team is seeking a student to join the Modeling team in Des Moines or via a remote location.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Analyze SOP 03-1, GAAP Intangibles and Fair Value of Liability (FVL) balances for quarterly GAAP financial reporting and help construct associated memorandums
  • Explain changes to quarterly economic reserves used in reporting for the company’s captives
  • Interpret quarterly GAAP, Statutory, and Financial Planning model runs
  • Assist with Cash Flow Testing. Responsibilities include interpretation of model results, sensitivity and assumption testing, documentation, and drafting of memorandums
  • Partner with Model Development to test and quantify the impact of assumption and model changes
  • Perform model updates/development to support the Institutional Life modeling team.
  • Develop, update, and maintain financial reporting controls to adhere to requirements of section 404 of the Sarbanes Oxley act
  • Support internal and external audit functions

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education and experience equivalent to a four-year college degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, finance, or other related field is required 
  • Two or more years of experience in the life/annuity insurance industry is preferred
  • Direct experience with MG ALFA or other actuarial valuation / projection software is required
  • Understanding of US GAAP and Statutory valuation frameworks is required
  • Experience with SAS or other programming is a plus
  • Knowledge of individual life and indexed products preferred
  • Demonstrated high competency to solve complex calculations and understand technical written material
  • Strong communication, technical and analytical skills
  • Ownership - Takes personal accountability for the execution of goals and objectives
  • Innovative - Able to participate in the generation of new and unique ideas
  • Teamwork - Positive attitude necessary to be part of a strong performing team

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Reports to Model Production team lead
  • Actuarial Role with Student Program Support
  • Candidate is expected to make active progress towards ASA or FSA
  • The role is not currently expected to manage other individuals
