About Roadforge

Heavy-duty truck repair is a $70B+ industry in the US, comprising over 50,000+ heavy-duty repair shops who repair the vehicles that form the backbone of our economy. But today, these shops are woefully underserved by existing software vendors.

That’s where Roadforge comes in. We’re a venture-backed shop management software platform on a mission to strengthen our country’s fleets by helping truck repair shops improve efficiency, reduce costs, and reduce time spent on manual, repetitive tasks.

We’re starting by building a shop management system that will enable repair shops to create service orders and manage parts / inventory with ease. Down the road, our goal is to build the most comprehensive business management solution for the truck repair industry, while revolutionizing how repair shops find and source truck parts. It’s a lofty goal, but we believe it’s a massive market opportunity that’s worth chasing.

We may not have a fancy office or free snacks (yet), but we do have a team of passionate problem-solvers who are excited to make a positive impact in our space. If you’re looking to build software that will shape the transportation and logistics industry, we’d love for you to join us.

Position Summary

We are hiring a Founding Engineer to join our team. As one of the first few engineers at Roadforge, you'll shape our early product and company culture. You should be comfortable working in a fast-paced, agile environment and be able to juggle multiple tasks.

Responsibilities

As a Founding Engineer you will:

  • Whip up some magic. Define, design, develop, and ship applications/features
  • Define and improve SDLC processes and best practices. We’re always looking for ways to make development more sustainable
  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to the overall quality of the codebase
  • Continuously discover, evaluate, and implement new and more efficient technologies/patterns to maximize development efficiency
  • Shape engineering and company culture
  • Scale the company through leadership and team building

You will be pivotal in our technical choices. Right now, our tech stack consists of:

  • Frontend - JavaScript (React)
  • Backend - C# (.NET Core 6)
  • Storage - Postgres, Redis

What You’ll Need

  • Love for building and technical challenges
  • A passion for technology and a desire to constantly learn and improve
  • Experience with agile software development methodologies and working in all phases of the SDLC
  • An ability to handle a rapidly changing environment
  • Experience with our core tech stack (Typescript/C#)

Nice to haves:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or similar major
  • 4+ years of experience building software professionally

What we love to see from our teammates:

  • Collaboration
  • Pragmatism
  • Curiosity
  • Attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills

If you don’t meet 100% of the above qualifications, consider applying anyway. This section is closer to a wish list than a real life candidate profile. Given the diversity in experiences and background, we’d love to meet you anyways!

Why You Should Join Us

You value ownership and want to be a part of something great. At Roadforge, you will be involved in every aspect of designing and building the product, from the first customer conversations and requirement gathering to planning, architecting, and implementing solutions. You will help drive product direction and help build our early team. You will have significant autonomy while building something extraordinary.

This is a unique opportunity to build software that provides incredible utility for our customer base. The potential for bleeding edge tech to help out here particularly excites us. The sky's the limit regarding how far we choose to modernize this space.

We hope to have you on this journey to build something truly amazing.

The Interview

This is our standard interview workflow. We may choose to add or remove rounds based on your experience and skill set, but for most candidates this is what you can expect.

Intro Call with Founder (45 mins):

This first call is about getting to know each other. Interviewing is a two way street! We want you to feel just as excited as us about the opportunity. We’ll spend the majority of the call discussing what you are looking for and assessing the Roadforge fit. We'll spend the last few minutes discussing some very high-level technical concepts, but this is not a technical interview.

Technical Screen (45 mins):

No tricky questions! We will walk through a simple programming question on a shared programming IDE. We’ll explore edge cases, scale, testing, and many other facets of the SDLC. While we are interested to see your programming proficiency, we’re focused on problem solving and communication rather than the right answer.

Systems Design (1 hour):

We love builders, and so we'll be asking you to spend a few hours building something with us. We will be using a short system design question to explore product requirements, trade offs, architecture/design, and implementation. The challenge is concise, requires little preparation, can be done in any programming language, and can be scheduled whenever is convenient for you. We also offer a take home! We look forward to seeing what you’ll create.

Meet the Team (45 mins):

At this point we’re excited about you! You’ll get a chance to meet a few more members of the team, and voice any thoughts or questions you might have about the role, our mission, career goals, and Roadforge as a whole.

Offer:

Congratulations! We’d love to answer any lingering questions and would also like to touch on what the near future holds for you and Roadforge.

Salary Range: $100k-$160k, depending on experience. We also offer meaningful equity to early employees.
