The Role

As Research Security Manager on a 12-month Fixed Term Contract (FTC) at Google DeepMind, you will play a key role in Google DeepMind’s Global Security team, partnering closely with security teams across Google and senior stakeholders across Google DeepMind. You will be responsible for managing risks to our critical assets and driving security education and awareness to safeguard our research environment. 

Key Responsibilities

Insider Risk Management

  • Drive the maturation of Google DeepMind’s insider risk program, partnering closely with Google’s security teams.
  • Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies, including preventive controls, detective measures, and incident response plans.
  • Report regularly to senior leadership on key risk indicators and program effectiveness.

Security Education and Awareness

  • Direct and oversee the security education program for Google DeepMind, cultivating vendor relationships and implementing security awareness and training initiatives for all personnel.
  • Promote a culture of security awareness across the organization, emphasizing shared responsibility for protecting sensitive information.

Security Policies and Standards

  • Drive remediation efforts in response to security investigations, and strengthen the security posture by identifying and closing process gaps.
  • Tailor and enhance data security protocols and guidelines to suit Google DeepMind's specific research environment.
  • Collaborate with legal and other stakeholders to ensure that security policies align with relevant laws and regulations.

About You

In order to set you up for success as the Research Security Manager at Google DeepMind, we look for the following skills and experience:

  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to execute a comprehensive security vision and strategy that aligns with organizational goals.
  • Program Management: Experience with overseeing programs related to insider risk management and/or security education.
  • Problem-Solving: Demonstrated ability to analyze complex security challenges, identify root causes, and develop effective solutions.
  • Communication: Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to articulate complex security concepts to diverse audiences, including senior leadership and technical staff.
  • Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships and influence across organisational boundaries.
  • Technical Expertise: Deep understanding of security principles, technologies, and best practices, with a focus on data security and insider threat detection.
  • Certifications: Relevant security education and/or insider risk certifications (e.g., SSAP, GCITP, CCITP-A, CCITP-F, CERT ITPM)

The US base salary range for this full-time position is between $122,000 - $186,000 + bonus + benefits. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your targeted location during the hiring process.
