About The Role

We are looking for a seasoned and technically-knowledgable leader to join our executive team as a VP, Software Infrastructure reporting directly to the CTO.  This role is to own and drive forward the core software systems, platforms, and developer tools used throughout our products, encompassing our robotic platforms and their IoT accessories, the cloud platform that manages them, and the AI/MLOps platform that powers both.  In this role, you will work closely with peers in the Product and Engineering teams to identify, support, and develop the infrastructure technology roadmap for the robotic solutions that we deploy to our customers, and own its execution.  We are looking for a proven leader with a background that spans both physical and cloud software systems.

About The Work

  • Mentor and develop high-performing AI, Robotics, and Cloud Engineering departments
  • Work with a hybrid (onsite and remote) team and departments
  • Support and exemplify our service culture of collaboration and continuous improvement
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to define the technical roadmap for the software infrastructure teams to operationalize company objectives
  • Define and lead implementation of company-wide software development strategy
  • Lead the implementation of robot and cloud CI/CD for scalable deployments to robot fleets at multiple customer locations
  • Manage the robot and cloud platform towards software best practices and compliance with industry standards and regulations
  • Lead teams that develop and maintain the OS and software distribution platforms for our cutting-edge robot and cloud ecosystem.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to integrate and update robot core software and dependencies, to improve the reliability and performance of our robotic platform.

You do have

  • Master’s or PhD in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience delivering production robotics systems, ideally with real-world deployment at scale.
  • 15+ years of experience in robotics software, including at least 5 years in engineering leadership roles.
  • Deep expertise in multi-language software build systems (e.g. bazel, cmake, ament/colcon) as well as language-specific tools (e.g. npm, uv), for packaging and distribution
  • Expertise in AI/ML platform development, including training, debugging, and practical real-world improvement for perception and controls models
  • Experience building, deploying, and maintaining edge AI/ML models in production
  • Expertise in both embedded and enterprise SDLC principles and best practices
  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure such as AWS, GCP, Kubernetes
  • Familiarity with industry-standard tools for software build/release in enterprise environments
  • Deep expertise with Robotics, IIoT, or similar distributed device environments in production settings
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Excited about building in a greenfield environment 
  • Excited about working with robotics
  • Experience hiring both full time, part time, and contract employees
  • Authorization to work in the USA

You may have

  • Experience in greenfield application development
  • Experience working with security technologies including firewalls, SIEMs, and encryption
  • Prior leadership in building and maintaining safety-critical or real-time embedded software systems.
  • Knowledge of data privacy and security compliance, especially w.r.t. SOC2, GDPR, ISO 27001, NIST CSF 2.0
