We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Merchant Monitoring Analyst to join our Compliance team to support the ongoing oversight of our customers and partners. This role is responsible for screening and monitoring customer activity, assessing risk signals such as sanctions matches, adverse media, and identity theft indicators — and also plays an active role in evaluating and approving key customer updates throughout a customer’s lifecycle

This is a cross-functional role that blends compliance monitoring, risk assessment, and operational decision-making to protect the company while supporting a seamless customer experience.

What You'll Do: 

Ongoing Monitoring & Screening

  • Conduct global sanctions, PEP, and adverse media screening and investigate and document potential matches
  • Monitor and disposition alerts for potential fraud, identity theft, or prohibited activity using third party tools, proprietary systems, and internal procedures.
  • Review client websites and app listings for changes and compliance with permitted use policies.
  • Client package intake 
  • Lead periodic review and audits of clients based on risk profiles 
  • Support ongoing monitoring, periodic reviews, and manage reporting to partner banks.
  • Manage and triage client change requests (e.g., ownership updates, control changes, transaction limits), validating documentation and escalating as needed.

Reviews & Approvals

  • Review and decision client change requests based on the type of change, risk profile, usage patterns, and supporting documentation.
  • Maintain clear and compliant documentation of decisions, rationales, and supporting evidence in the customer record.

Collaboration & Reporting

  • Collaborate closely with Merchant Review team member and Account Managers to ensure customer updates are handled efficiently and in line with internal risk policies.
  • Contribute ideas for process improvement
  • Document new procedures that will be used to train and scale the team
  • Maintain internal data sources – source of truth – to support downstream reporting and ongoing monitoring.
  • Support audits, examinations, or reporting by maintaining complete and well-documented case histories.

Qualifications

  • 1–4 years of experience in a compliance, fraud, risk, or customer protection role in financial services, fintech, or a related industry.
  • Familiarity screening tools (e.g., Persona, LexisNexis, CSI Watchdog, G2)
  • Experience with identity theft prevention or fraud detection tools is a plus.
  • Quick learner and creative thinker who is solution oriented
  • Strong analytical and investigative skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive data and confidential information with discretion.
  • Comfortable working cross-functionally in a fast-paced and regulated environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.

Nice to Have

  • ACAMS, CFE, or similar compliance or fraud-related certification.
  • Experience working in payments, money services businesses, or digital banking platforms
  • Familiarity with card network rules

The base pay for this position is $117,000; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. This position is located in our Palo Alto, CA HQ or in our New York office.
