The Role First We Feast, the media company and studio behind hit series like The Burger Show, Heat Eaters, Pro Moves, Versus, and more is looking for a project-based writer for our flagship series, Hot Ones. Over the past ten years, Hot Ones has become a true pop culture juggernaut. Renowned for its deeply researched questions and candid celebrity interviews, Hot Ones has grown from its humble roots; we’ve received Emmy nods, been parodied on SNL, generated countless memes, and inspired Spice Lords around the globe to obsess over the show. As we enter our 27th season, we’re searching for a writer who will assist the Hot Ones team—the same ones who have been here since the beginning—in crafting Runs of Shows/interview questions for some of the biggest celebrities in pop culture. You Will: Review detailed research packets from our team and turn their insights into compelling questions vastly different from typical celebrity interviews. Work with a high degree of independence to deliver near-complete Run of Show drafts to the Hot Ones team, including our host, creators, and showrunner for review.  Incorporate team feedback to punch up scripts in advance of shoots. Write on deadlines that may shift quickly based on talent/production requirements, and which often require tight turnarounds. You Have: A knack for shaping a story through a line of questions, particularly taking our team’s research and synthesizing it into a narrative that allows talent to shine. A deep obsession with pop culture, as well as a working familiarity with the entertainment industry and the particular needs of press junkets/promo. Previous professional writing experience, ideally in the late night/talk shows/comedy worlds. Some previous journalism or fact-checking experience is a plus.  The ability to work with minimal oversight to create ROS drafts for our team’s review and can quickly incorporate feedback to deliver a finished product. An understanding of what a show like Hot Ones does best: balances highlighting talent and their work, and delivering the unexpected and probing questions our audience expects and loves.
