Scientist, Computational Biology
What if you could join a rapidly growing company and play a critical role in bringing new medicines to patients through looking at and treating disease in a revolutionary way?
About Vesalius
Vesalius Therapeutics is pioneering a revolutionary platform to generate breakthrough treatments for common diseases. Vesalius’ platform uses large-scale human genetics, genomics, stem cell studies and artificial intelligence to uncover causal biology and identify optimal intervention points for new therapies. Efficiently identifying these intervention points and the patients most likely to benefit from these novel therapies will enable smaller, shorter clinical trials with a higher probability of success. Vesalius was founded in 2019 by Flagship Pioneering. For more information visit vesaliustx.com, or follow us on X and LinkedIn.
The Role
Vesalius Therapeutics is seeking a computational biologist with experience in Bayesian inference, network analysis (structure learning, counterfactual inference), and/or sequence modeling (sgRNA design, mutation/selection, prediction) to join our team. You will report to the Head of Data Science and apply or develop state-of-the-art computational methods to deliver biological insights combining internally generated and external data sets. You will bring a solid foundation in applied statistics, high-performance, scalable, reproducible scientific code (demonstrated by a public Github repository), and molecular, cell, or tissue biology. You will work both independently and in matrixed teams with wet lab scientists, statistical geneticists, and machine learning scientists to redefine common diseases and develop new therapeutics to address unmet need.
What You’ll Do:
- Deliver biological insights into cellular networks, patient biomarkers, and/or in-vitro physiological models and champion decisions and next steps
- Identify relevant external data sets and new opportunities/needs for internal data generation
- Write and deploy high-performance code/pipelines for large-scale computation
- Communicate to both technical and non-technical audiences clearly in writing and speaking
What You’ll Bring:
- PhD. in Computer Science, Computational Biology, Biostatistics, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field
- Additional experience desirable but not required
- Demonstrated proficiency in a relevant programming language (Python, R, etc.) supported by a public Github repository
- Experience developing novel models, algorithms, or software implementations a plus
- Strong communication skills in writing and speaking
About Flagship
Flagship Pioneering is a bioplatform innovation company that invents and builds platform companies, each with the potential for multiple products that transform human health or sustainability. Since its launch in 2000, Flagship has originated and fostered more than 100 scientific ventures, resulting in more than $90 billion in aggregate value. Many of the companies Flagship has founded have addressed humanity’s most urgent challenges: vaccinating billions of people against COVID-19, curing intractable diseases, improving human health, preempting illness, and feeding the world by improving the resiliency and sustainability of agriculture. Flagship has been recognized twice on FORTUNE’s “Change the World” list, an annual ranking of companies that have made a positive social and environmental impact through activities that are part of their core business strategies, and has been twice named to Fast Company’s annual list of the World’s Most Innovative Companies.
