An overview of this role

As VP, Professional Services at GitLab, you'll contribute to and execute the strategic vision that drives service delivery for GitLab's Professional Services Organization. Reporting to the Vice President of Customer Success, you'll be responsible for developing strategies and operations to deliver best-in-class consulting and implementation services that accelerate customers' DevSecOps transformations. You'll further scale a services business within GitLab's bold, fast-moving, transparent, and values-led organization to enable both customer and company success.

This role puts you at the center of GitLab's go-to-market strategy, where you'll lead a global team of 70+ professionals including engagement managers, architects and engineers.You'll manage a complete P&L while driving service attach rates across all market segments and geographies. Your leadership will directly influence GitLab's competitive positioning through innovative service offerings that maximize customer value and business outcomes.

You'll collaborate extensively with Sales, Product, Marketing, and Customer Success teams to align service delivery with GitLab's overall strategy, impacting  the entire customer lifecycle. You'll tackle complex challenges like further scaling service delivery globally, maturing partner ecosystems, and continuously partnering on the innovation of service offerings to meet evolving market demands.

This position requires a unique blend of leadership, strategic planning, and client management skills, along with deep industry knowledge in DevSecOps, cloud platforms, and enterprise software delivery.

What You'll Do

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a global team of 70+ professional engagement managers, architects, engineers and delivery partners while fostering a culture of high performance and customer-centricity
  • Manage the professional services P&L including budgeting, forecasting, financial performance tracking, and optimization of resources to maximize profitability and growth targets
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with key clients, serving as executive sponsor for strategic accounts and senior escalation point for critical issues to drive customer success and expansion
  • Collaborate with Sales, Product, Marketing, and Customer Success teams to influence GitLab's go-to-market strategy, align on customer needs, and ensure cohesive service delivery across all touchpoints
  • Ensure excellence in the execution of best practices, standards, and methodologies for service delivery while laser-focused on metrics and KPIs to continuously improve team effectiveness and customer satisfaction
  • Drive service attach rates globally across all market segments through new developments, improvements, and innovation in service offerings, while building strategic partnerships with delivery partners and system integrators.

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Computer Science, or related field; Master's degree or MBA preferred, with proven track record managing large-scale service delivery projects and teams in technology companies
  • Demonstrated experience building, growing, and scaling global services businesses with 70+ team members, delivering to bookings, revenue, and margin targets in fast-paced, subscription-based business environments
  • Deep expertise in software development lifecycle (SDLC), agile methodologies, DevOps, and modern technologies including Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure)
  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing P&L responsibility, budgets, forecasts, and bookings/revenue acceleration strategies.  
  • Exceptional cross-functional leadership abilities with proven experience influencing executive and senior management, customers, and partners on strategic go-to-market initiatives
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills with ability to serve as evangelist for GitLab customers while building consensus across diverse stakeholders and senior executives
  • Demonstrated progressive experience with subscription-based business models, delivering both on-premises and SaaS solutions in enterprise environments
  • Ability to use GitLab platform effectively and serve as expert in Professional Services both internally and externally with customers, partners, and industry communities

Our team combines deep technical expertise with proven methodologies to help customers unlock the full potential of the GitLab platform while building their internal capabilities for long-term success.

The base salary range for this role’s listed level is currently for residents of listed locations only. Grade level and salary ranges are determined through interviews and a review of education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities of the applicant, equity with other team members, and alignment with market data. See more information on our benefits and equity. Sales roles are also eligible for incentive pay targeted at up to 100% of the offered base salary.
