The Opportunity

Good Inside is seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to help lead the next stage of our growth. In this role, you'll design and maintain scalable backend systems and infrastructure that power our core products. From building innovative features to improving engineering efficiency, your work will shape the technical foundation of a mission-driven company.

This role reports to the Engineering Manager, and is a hybrid role requiring three days a week onsite at our office in Midtown Manhattan.

What You’ll Own

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable, reliable, and robust backend services and APIs to support critical business applications at scale.
  • Develop and integrate secure, high-performance services with internal systems and external third-party services.
  • Collaborate closely with frontend engineers, product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to define system architecture, optimal data structures, and API contracts.
  • Identify, diagnose, and resolve complex performance bottlenecks, scalability issues, and system-level challenges.
  • Mentor team members on best practices, system design principles, and technical approaches, serving as a technical leader.
  • Produce detailed technical documentation and communicate clearly about architectural choices and trade-offs.
  • Continuously advocate for and implement technical improvements, enhancing code quality, reliability, and engineering standards.

Your Skills and Experience 

  • 5+ years of professional experience in backend software engineering.
  • 2+ years of technical leadership experience, including mentoring engineers, driving architectural decisions, or leading projects.
  • Demonstrated expertise with backend frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask, or Django.
  • Experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs and microservices.
  • Solid understanding of distributed systems, scalability principles, and database systems (SQL and/or NoSQL).
  • Strong analytical and debugging skills, with a proven ability to effectively troubleshoot complex problems.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure services (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies such as Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes.
  • Experience with data engineering, ETL pipelines, data warehousing solutions, or big data technologies.
  • Strong track record of collaborating effectively across engineering, product, and design teams.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage priorities, adapt quickly to changing requirements, and drive projects to completion.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent practical experience).
