Senior Community Engineer
About Mux
Mux is video for developers. Our mission is to democratize video by solving the hard problems developers face when building video: video encoding and streaming (Mux Video), video monitoring (Mux Data), and more. Video is a huge part of people’s lives, and we want to help make it better.
We’re committed to building a healthy team that welcomes a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences. We want people who care about our mission, are ready to grow, believe in our values (from Be Human to Turn Customers Into Fans), and want to make the people around them better.
You’ll be joining a tight-knit team with experience at places like Google, YouTube, Twitch, Zencoder, Fastly, and more. Our founders previously started (and sold) Zencoder, an early leader in cloud video technology, and authored Video.js, the biggest HTML5 video player on the web. We organize Demuxed, the premiere conference for video engineers in the world.
We’re backed by top investors like Coatue, Accel, Andreessen Horowitz, and Y Combinator. You’ll get to work with amazing companies: hundreds of startups, plus Reddit, Vimeo, Robinhood, CBSi, Discovery, PBS, and TED. Customers large and small love working with us and love our team.
We are building something big together. We’d love to hear from you!
About the Role
As a Community Engineer, you'll inspire developers to build cool things with video, build cool stuff yourself, and help developers use (and love!) Mux and our platform. This Community Engineer role is part of the Self-Service team, who is responsible for attracting and converting new developers to start building with Mux. As a Community Engineer, you'll spend about 40% of time on content, 40% of time writing code and contributing to various projects, and 20% time on creative exploration.
What You'll Do
- Talk to customers to see first hand what they are building and how they are using Mux.
- Come up with creative ideas to help expose Mux to developers in an authentic and engaging way.
- Improve Mux’s documentation and resources that help developers understand what Mux does and how they can use Mux.
- Speak and write for a developer audience, submit talks, make videos, write blog posts, and represent Mux at conferences.
- Help drive the feedback loop between what you’re seeing in the larger developer community and the Mux Engineering and Product teams to ensure that the customer voice is being amplified.
Who You Are
- Senior-level engineer with 5+ years of experience writing code and are comfortable building with modern programming languages, and a strong desire to keep growing your technical skills.
- You have a self-starter, entrepreneurial mindset and thrive in ambiguity and fast-moving environments.
- You love problem solving, you like helping people and you like working with developers.
- Willing to travel for conferences, events, and meetups.
- Bonus: Experience running or supporting a community - whether online or in person, developer or otherwise.
