Internship Description | Life at onX

As an onX intern, you are a full-time engineer (mobile, web, or backend) and a valued part of our team. Together, we work collaboratively to enhance our best-in-class mapping technology in order to help create memorable outdoor experiences for our amazing customers.

What you’ll do

As an onX intern, you will gain real-world experience and learn what it means to be a professional engineer, learning from a world-class team. During your internship, you will be an integral part of the onX engineering team - working with your team to build key areas of the app experience. This is your chance to use your classroom knowledge to contribute to practical applications making an impact on the end-user experience. At the end of your onX internship, you’ll be able to point to some part of our app and say “I helped build that for our customers.” 

Anticipated Internship Start Date

We will work to accommodate your school schedule when determining the start date and duration. This full-time internship will occur from May/June 2026 to July/August 2026, for approximately 10-12 weeks.

Internship Requirements

  • You have strong computer science fundamentals and are currently pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • You will have completed your Sophomore year by the time of this internship (see anticipated dates above). 
  • You have experience or completed coursework related to data structures, algorithms, and software design.
  • You have experience with coding in Java, JavaScript, Python, or another relevant programming language. We develop in Swift, Kotlin, JavaScript, Elixir, Go, and Python.
  • You have an understanding of software quality and testing practices. 
  • You are deeply curious, fun to work with and believe the best work happens when you are a part of a passionate team.

INTERNSHIP LOCATION

Onsite in Montana or remotely from select locations. onX’s corporate offices are located in Missoula and Bozeman, Montana. This position can be performed near a corporate office or remotely from one of onX’s “Basecamps,” which are emerging locations where our remote onXers cluster for work and adventure. onX’s current Basecamps are located within a 120-mile radius of the following: Austin, TX; Denver, CO; Minneapolis, MN; Portland, OR; Charlotte, NC; Salt Lake City, UT; and Seattle, WA. 

COMPENSATION + PERKS

onX is committed to compensating all employees fairly and equitably for their contributions. For this position, applicants can expect to make between $30 and $35 per hour for the duration of their internship. The pay range will vary based on the type of degree (Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D.) and highest year completed in school (Sophomore, Junior, or Senior).
