Senior Software Engineer, Infrastructure
About OPAQUE
OPAQUE is the Confidential AI company. Born from UC Berkeley’s RISELab, we solve the core challenge blocking AI adoption at scale: security concerns about data leaks or compliance violations. OPAQUE provides verifiable privacy and governance for AI so organizations can safely run models, agents, and workflows on their most sensitive data. Its Confidential AI platform delivers verifiable runtime governance backed by cryptographic proof that data, models, and agent actions remain private, governed, and compliant with approved policies throughout every AI workflow. This extends traditional data governance tools with real runtime verification, enabling teams to responsibly deploy AI using their most valuable proprietary data, and move from pilot to production 4-5X faster. Customers and partners include ServiceNow, Anthropic, Encore Capital, Accenture, and leaders across high tech, financial services, insurance, and healthcare.

About the Role
We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer, Infrastructure who takes ownership, loves solving hard problems, and is driven by curiosity. You’ll design, build, and scale the systems that power Opaque’s Confidential AI platform, from cloud infrastructure and developer tooling to observability and CI/CD.
This role is ideal for an engineer who thrives in fast-moving environments, learns continuously, and communicates proactively. You’ll work closely with product and platform teams to ensure our systems are reliable, secure, and delightful to develop on.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain scalable, secure, and compliant cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code.

- Operate and improve Kubernetes-based systems, bridging application and infrastructure to ensure reliability at scale.
- Participate in on-call rotations, incident response, and postmortems, driving improvements in availability and recovery.
- Lead observability efforts — defining metrics, building dashboards, and making system health visible and actionable.
- Drive cost awareness and optimization across environments.
- Build internal tools and automation that make developers more productive and happy.
- Collaborate across teams, proactively surfacing issues and opportunities before they become blockers.
You May Be a Good Fit If You

- Communicate clearly, precisely, and proactively, aligning technical direction with stakeholder needs
- Care deeply about reliability, scalability, and developer experience.
- Are fluent in at least one language such as Python, Go, Rust, or Java
- Have deep knowledge of Kubernetes, Azure, GCP, or AWS, and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Cloudformation, Pulumi, etc.).
- Have experience with security or compliance frameworks (SOC 2, ISO 27001, or similar).
Strong candidates may have
- Experience in early-stage startups or hyper-growth environments.
- A background in security, privacy, or confidential computing.
- Contributions to open source or community-driven infrastructure projects.
