Job Description

We are seeking a Director of Engineering to lead our AI-focused engineering teams with a blend of technical prowess and exceptional leadership skills. This pivotal role requires someone who can navigate the complexities of directing cross-functional projects, embodying a spirit of decisiveness and high ownership. The ideal candidate is deeply committed to delivering customer value, balancing technical and product work with a pragmatic approach. With a proven track record in startup environments, you should be adept at fostering a culture of high autonomy, driving your team of engineering managers towards excellence.

Your role will not only involve steering the technical roadmap but also ensuring that every project under your watch aligns with our overarching product strategy and roadmap. Your ability to recruit and retain top-tier engineering talent will be key, as will your intensity and competitive drive to position our company as a leader in the market.

Your responsibilities will include creating systems to manage consistent product delivery, advocating for necessary technical work, and maintaining a laser focus on customer impact. As someone who previously managed teams and contributed to technical discussions, you understand the importance of staying connected to the engineering process, even if not directly involved in coding.

Your leadership style should inspire accountability and innovation, keeping the trains running on time while actively seeking out and addressing any sticking points or false assumptions. The role demands a unique blend of technical insight, strategic thinking, and a hands-on approach to leadership. If you are passionate about building and leading high-performing teams, driving customer-centric product development, and thriving in a fast-paced environment, we invite you to apply.

Primary duties

Leadership and Direction: Develop and execute a clear strategic vision for the product engineering department, aligning team efforts with the company’s product goals and customer needs. This includes overseeing the creation and implementation of a technical roadmap, ensuring projects are prioritized based on impact and alignment with business objectives.

Team Management and Development: Directly manage a team of 20 engineers and 1-2 EMs, fostering an environment of high autonomy and ownership. Focus on recruiting, mentoring, and retaining top-tier engineering talent, creating growth opportunities that align with individual career aspirations and the company’s objectives.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Lead cross-functional projects that require coordination between engineering, product, design, and other departments. Ensure seamless communication and collaboration, driving projects to successful completion with a focus on delivering customer value.

Process and System Optimization: Design and implement efficient systems and processes to manage consistent product delivery and high performance across the engineering team. Use these systems not for perfection but as tools to achieve great outcomes, focusing on adaptability and continuous improvement.

Technical Advocacy and Decision-Making: Advocate for necessary technical work that supports the product’s growth and stability, balancing this with the need to continuously deliver customer value. Make decisive, informed decisions in ambiguous situations, guiding the team through technical challenges and ensuring alignment with the company’s strategic goals.

Postscript Demographic Questions and Categorizations

At Postscript, we are committed to creating an inclusive workplace that values diversity. We firmly believe that companies diverse in, for example, age, gender identity, race, sexual orientation, ethnicity, and perspective are better because of it. However, even beyond that belief, we simply want to strive for what's right.

For this reason, we are asking candidates to voluntarily self-identify through a few demographic questions. Our purpose in collecting this information is to help us assess our outreach efforts and diversity representation goals. Your responses will not be linked to your identity or your application, and neither recruiters nor hiring managers can see this information at an individual level. Your responses are stored in the aggregate and will not play any role in our hiring decision.  Your decision to participate or not participate in this survey will have no impact on your candidacy at Postscript.

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
