Who We Are 

As a Precision Vehicle Holdings company, FLEXRail Solutions was originally created in 2021. FLEXRail Solutions provides intermodal optionality to industrial customers, allowing for better long-term service and pricing, beginning with our rail terminal in Fort Wayne, IN.

Working Location: Flint, Michigan - Flint Assembly Plant

What You’ll Do 

The Quality Inspector will ensure FLEXRail meets its service commitments by conducting daily rail switching and terminal operations. They will learn and execute operations safely, adhering to regulations and FLEXRail's safety protocols. As a Quality Inspector, you’ll be responsible for: 

  • Performing ground inspections, gate inspections, and interchange inspections.
  • Thoroughly inspect the exterior and interior of each unit before it is handled and/or scanned into inventory.
  • Photographing all damage found on exterior or interior of the vehicle.
  • Ensuring meticulous documentation of any areas with damage using the appropriate codes on the handheld scanner.
  • Completing all procedures professionally following the regulations put in place by the AAR and the customer.
  • Inspecting facilities, machinery, loading equipment, customers vehicles, rail cars, employee attire to identify and correct potential damages and to ensure damage free and quality shipment for customers.
  • Establishing quality audit inspections, standards, and corrective actions to ensure site compliance with all company, customer, local, state, and federal regulations, and guidelines.
  • Conducting on-site damage and/or quality audits for all locations on a scheduled frequency and report findings to leadership.
  • Ensuring compliance to audit inspection standards and work with site personnel and vendors to answer findings and complaints in a timely, efficient, and professional manner.
  • Reviewing claim reports and follow up in the field, as necessary.
  • Recommending processes that will enhance the customer experience.
  • Assisting leadership during customer meetings and/or calls to discuss damage, quality concerns, issues, and mitigation procedures.
  • Monitoring, revising, and implementing ongoing updates in automotive damage and quality regulations, laws, or reporting requirements.
  • Assisting with the enforcement of regulatory regulations and company policies.
  • Establishing quality audit inspections, standards, and corrective actions to ensure site compliance with all company, customer, local, state, and federal regulations, and guidelines.
  • Assisting in the identification, development, and administration of company damage and quality training programs to ensure all newly hired employees, temporary employees, contractors, visitors receive proper training, as well as ongoing training on inspection tools and proper protocols.
  • Reviewing the inspection bulletins on the PRC available in the “Quality” tab.
  • Questioning teams in the field about proper inspection etiquette.
  • Providing technical quality support and information to all employees.
  • Coordinating and administering quality training initiatives for the company to ensure compliance with AAR, AIGA and all other regulatory requirements.
  • Flexibility to adapt to various tasks and duties as assigned by supervisors to support operational needs. 

Candidate Requirements 

We are seeking a hardworking and adaptable Quality Inspector with experience in baying, loading, unloading, and securement of finished vehicles. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, including active listening, effective verbal and written communication, negotiation, coaching, and conflict resolution. 

  • Ability to thrive in an ambiguous and rapidly changing environment.
  • Experience in both union and non-union environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively deliver engaging presentations and conduct comprehensive training sessions, ensuring clear communication and a high level of audience engagement.
  • Proven expertise in managing projects from inception to completion, with a strong focus on delivering exceptional service and fostering client satisfaction.
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite, internet applications, and database management, demonstrating accuracy and efficiency in utilizing these tools.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the English language, including advanced knowledge of word meanings, spellings, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to apply individual judgment in assessing whether audits comply with relevant laws, regulations, or standards.
  • Must hold a current, valid driver’s license and maintain a clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass drug screening and criminal background check. 

Physical Demands of the Job 

  • The employee must ensure safety while working in a shipping and rail yard environment, including safely entering and exiting customer cars, railcars, and equipment.
  • Work in various indoor and outdoor environments.
  • Regularly carry, lift, move, push, and/or pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance.
  • Perform various manual tasks such as ascending/descending ladders, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, twisting, crouching, and reaching, all of which may be repetitive.
  • Work and stand for extended periods.
  • Work in proximity to hazardous materials, loud noise, and/or extreme temperatures.
  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, standard operating procedures, work instructions, procedure manuals, and policies.
  • Quickly respond to safety instructions, alarms, and signals.
  • Comfortably wear personal protective equipment.
  • Frequently navigate a busy environment.
  • Display clear vision and physical agility required for performing the duties associated with the role. 

Additional Information 

  • This position requires the employee to be onsite full-time, with minimal travel outside of the assigned terminal.
  • A person applying for this position must be available to work full-time, weekends, nights, or an on-call schedule when necessary.
  • As an employee, you will be responsible for retaining a valid driver's license, free from any drug or alcohol-related driving convictions or reckless driving and always remain “insurable” while operating company owned or controlled vehicles.
