BIM Specialist

Starbase, TX

SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.

BIM SPECIALIST

Building on the rapid advancement of the Starship program, we are moving into a new phase of facility and infrastructure growth. As the Starship launch cadence ramps up we are in need of multiple high rise facilities to support new vehicle builds and reflight refurbishment across various sites. We are currently seeking a BIM Specialist to lead the integration and coordination of Building Information Modeling (BIM) within fast paced multi-disciplinary projects, ensuring that project objectives are met through effective model management and collaboration. This position will serve as a key technical resource, supporting project teams and fostering strong BIM practices throughout the project lifecycle. Starship's next generation vertical integration facilities will ultimately enable the path to the Moon, Mars and beyond.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and maintain detailed 3D BIM models using industry-standard software (Revit, Navisworks, AutoCad) for architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP), and other engineering disciplines
  • Perform clash detection, model coordination, and constructability reviews to identify and resolve conflicts early in the design and construction phases
  • Lead BIM coordination efforts for multi-disciplinary projects, ensuring the seamless integration of models and data. Specifically, this will be a mix of in house processes/elements and external design consultants through the whole project lifecycle
  • Collaborate closely with project stakeholders to establish and maintain BIM standards, protocols, and workflows
  • Act as the primary BIM resource for team members, internal customers and external design consultants, addressing technical issues and optimizing BIM processes for project success
  • Work with with the design and construction teams to keep a living model that will culminate in an as-built of the facility at hand
  • Lead the transition of BIM workflows from third-party providers to in-house operations, including data migration, process documentation, and training of team members
  • Generate accurate construction documentation, quantity takeoffs, and visualizations to support project bidding, procurement, and on-site execution
  • Troubleshoot technical issues in BIM environments and recommend software/tools/process improvements to enhance efficiency
  • Participate in cross-functional meetings, providing BIM expertise to inform design decisions and mitigate risks

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering or Construction Management
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience as a BIM Specialist or Modeler in a construction or engineering environment

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 5+ years of professional experience in BIM coordination, with multidisciplinary experience on high rise projects
  • Experience modeling multiple disciplines (e.g., architecture, structural, MEP).
  • Exposure to high rise construction projects is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate will have owned BIM coordination through construction administration on multiple large scale projects and have a solid understanding of means and methods of construction
  • Experience in aerospace, high-tech manufacturing, or mission-critical facilities projects.
  • Proficiency in BIM authoring and coordination tools, including Revit (advanced level), Navisworks, and related plugins; familiarity with Dynamo or similar scripting for automation.
  • Strong understanding of interdisciplinary coordination workflows, clash detection, and federated modeling in large-scale projects.
  • Demonstrated expertise in architectural, engineering or MEP-focused BIM workflows, with the ability to drive project success through effective model coordination and communication.
  • Certification in BIM (e.g., Autodesk Certified Professional in Revit for Architectural Design/Structure/MEP, or AGC BIM Certificate).
  • Knowledge of advanced BIM integrations, such as reality capture (e.g., laser scanning with Trimble or Leica), VR/AR visualizations, or cloud-based collaboration platforms (e.g., Autodesk BIM 360/ACC).
  • Design experience in architecture, engineering or a related field
  • Familiarity with structural analysis tools and integration of BIM data for structural engineering applications.
  • Experience with Siemens NX

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be willing to travel
  • Ability to pass Air Force background checks for Cape Canaveral and Vandenberg

ITAR REQUIREMENTS:

  • To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State. If you believe you belong to any of the categories of protected veterans listed below, please indicate by making the appropriate selection. As a government contractor subject to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), we request this information in order to measure the effectiveness of the outreach and positive recruitment efforts we undertake pursuant to VEVRAA. Classification of protected categories is as follows:

A "disabled veteran" is one of the following: a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

A "recently separated veteran" means any veteran during the three-year period beginning on the date of such veteran's discharge or release from active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval, or air service.

An "active duty wartime or campaign badge veteran" means a veteran who served on active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service during a war, or in a campaign or expedition for which a campaign badge has been authorized under the laws administered by the Department of Defense.

An "Armed forces service medal veteran" means a veteran who, while serving on active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service, participated in a United States military operation for which an Armed Forces service medal was awarded pursuant to Executive Order 12985.

OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
