QA Engineer

TEGNA is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Automation Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team. This role will focus on building and maintaining robust automated testing frameworks to ensure the reliability, scalability, and performance of our software products.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software testing, automation frameworks, and modern QA practices, along with the ability to collaborate closely with developers, product managers, and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality software.

What You’ll Do

  • Design, develop, and maintain automated test frameworks and test suites for web and API testing.
  • Execute manual testing activities, including test case design, test execution, and defect reporting.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand product requirements and create comprehensive test strategies and plans.
  • Perform code reviews and provide feedback to ensure adherence to coding standards and automation best practices.
  • Identify and prioritize opportunities for test automation, improving overall QA efficiency.
  • Investigate and debug test failures, working closely with developers to resolve issues quickly.
  • Analyze test results and communicate findings to stakeholders, providing actionable insights and recommendations.
  • Support and mentor junior team members on automation best practices and testing methodologies.
  • Continuously enhance testing processes, tools, and frameworks to improve test coverage and efficiency.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience in software testing and automation.
  • Strong experience in web, mobile, and API testing.
  • Proficiency in JavaScript programming.
  • Hands-on experience with automation frameworks such as Selenium and Playwright.
  • Strong understanding of software testing principles, methodologies, and QA best practices.
  • Experience in manual testing processes, including test design and execution.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues.
  • Experience working with CI/CD pipelines for automated testing and deployment.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills when working with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with modern test automation tools and frameworks beyond Selenium/Playwright.
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development environments.
  • Experience with test management tools, bug tracking systems, and version control systems.
  • Exposure to performance testing or security testing practices.
