Job Description
- As The Daily Beast anchors its strategy in data, our Data Team is at the heart of that mission. We are seeking an Editorial Data Analyst to be a vital link between data insights and real-world action, partnering directly with our Editorial and Audience teams to help shape the future of our content and how it gets read.
What You'll Do
- Uncover trends and share the story: Dive deep into our data to find the "why" behind our performance. You'll be the go-to expert who proactively identifies audience behaviors and coaches our Editorial and Audience teams on what's working and where to focus next.
- Lead testing strategies across the reader journey: You won't just run tests; you'll build the framework. You’ll partner with stakeholders to design experiments that test not just content, but also distribution tactics across social media, video platforms, and syndication partners, and strategies for driving subscriptions.
- Empower our teams with data: Build and maintain clear, insightful dashboards (Tableau, Looker Studio) that give our editors and audience strategists the power to make smarter, faster decisions.
- Be a hands-on strategic partner: Work shoulder-to-shoulder with key teams, turning your analysis into innovative story ideas and new audience acquisition tactics.
- Get your hands dirty with data: Use SQL to query our databases and wrangle datasets to answer the organization's most pressing questions about our readers and their journey from casual visitor to loyal subscriber.
What You Bring to the Team:
- A natural teacher and collaborator, able to explain complex data in a simple, compelling way to diverse, non-technical teams.
- Passion for the full lifecycle of digital content—from creation and distribution to engagement and monetization.
- Fluency in Excel/Google Sheets and solid experience with SQL.
- A deep curiosity for spotting trends and the drive to solve puzzles with data.
- A sharp writer who can make data compelling and easy to understand.
- A self-starter who thrives on testing, learning, and iterating quickly.
- Experience with tools like Tableau, Looker Studio, BigQuery, Google Analytics, or Parse.ly is a major plus.
- Familiarity with Python or R is a bonus.
- 1-2 years of relevant experience in data analytics, consulting, business intelligence, or similar role.
What We Offer:
- A mission-driven team passionate about quality journalism
- Opportunities for growth and professional development
- A collaborative and flexible work environment
- Competitive salary and benefits package
This position is hybrid (3+ days in office).
