
Executive Director, Global Medical Expert - Bone
Position Summary:
Ultragenyx is seeking a dynamic and experienced physician leader to join the Global Medical Affairs team focused on the rare bone disease franchise. We are preparing for the potential commercialization of a monoclonal antibody therapy for the treatment of Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI). The leader will be focused on the OI program, as well as Crysvita for XLH.
Reporting to the VP Global/US Medical Affairs and Strategy, is an innovative high-profile position that requires a “hands on” adaptable and clinically capable leader, comfortable working in a fast-paced intellectual environment, who understands patient care, rare bone disease and will be adept at leveraging their expertise to advance our mission to change the future of rare disease medicine.

Work Model:
Remote: Officially documented as working full-time from home, with travel to Ultragenyx's offices or other locations on occasion as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Leverage a distinguished academic and clinical background to establish and maintain high-impact partnerships with US and Global key opinion leaders, research networks, and medical societies
- Lead or participate in scientific advisory boards, steering committees, and investigator meetings to gather key insights that inform program strategy and activities
- Serve as a proactive expert for the Disease Monitoring Programs for rare bone disease. Support as needed protocol refinement, contribute to steering committee meetings
- Lead or contribute to data generation, analysis and publication activities
- Lead scientific education both internally and externally
- Be fully integrated with teams engaging with the rare bone physician community. Take a “hands on” approach proactively identify to resolve challenges and barriers, through compliant delivery of timely scientific information and education to peers to inform clinical decision-making
- Serve as the senior medical leader in partnership with Global Patient Advocacy for engagement and education initiatives
- Represent the company at key scientific meeting and other external stakeholder meetings to advance awareness and deep understanding of our science and therapies
- Provide strategic medical expertise to the program and commercialization teams related to assigned products
- Stay abreast of internal and external developments, trends and dynamics and provide direction for strategic implications to the development of therapies for rare bone disease
Requirements:
- Medical Doctor (MD, PhD strongly preferred) with Board Certification in Pediatric/Adult Endocrinology, Clinical/Biochemical Genetics or Orthopedics (required)
- Proven expertise in the management of patients with rare metabolic bone disorders
- Recognized scientific authority and the ability to engage in advanced scientific and clinical discussions with both internal and external experts.
- A "hands-on" leader who operates with a sense of urgency and is willing to be directly involved in the development and execution of strategic plans and problem solving
- Demonstrated success leading cross functional or multidisciplinary teams, ideally in both academia and biotech
- At least 10 years of academic/faculty experience, including a strong record of peer-reviewed publications. Clinical investigator experience preferred
- Well-established network of key opinion leaders and influencers within the rare disease and metabolic bone communities
- Experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry—including drug development, clinical trials, or medical affairs—is desirable but not required
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 25%, including domestic and international engagements

The typical annual salary range for this full-time position is listed below. This range reflects the characteristics of the job, such as required skills and qualifications and is based on the office location noted in this job posting. The range may also be adjusted based on applicant's geographic location.
This position is eligible for annual bonus and equity incentives. Actual individual pay is determined by demonstrated experience and internal equity alignment.
Pay Range
$323,800 - $399,900 USD
