Sr. Full-Stack Developer
CMS Development, Downstream

Downstream is an Experience Design firm with offices in Portland, Oregon, New York, NY, and Amsterdam, NE. We are an interdisciplinary team of designers, developers, AV engineers, and technologists who come together to deliver immersive spaces and moments for the world's leading brands. Our work sets new benchmarks. We work with clients to help translate and tell their stories, and to design systems and journeys that solve key business problems, in-situ and at scale. Mission
The Downstream CMS Team’s Senior Full-Stack Developer drives technical excellence across the team. The mission is to radically simplify the application and lay the cultural and technical foundation of our zero-defect methodology in 2026.
Outcomes
- Transition Bridge to a zero-defect development methodology in the first 6
- Achieve a defect rate of less than 25 per 1,000 lines of code across authored and approved code.
- Fix three times as many defects as created
- Fix all newly discovered defects within three months of discovery
- Achieve a 5x improvement in development efficiency, as measured in cost per unit of functionality, in the first 12
- Elevate our SDLC from a managed process to a defined process within 12 months, by implementing technical controls such as improvements to our work tracker and continuous integration, and by writing and socializing process
Responsibilities
- Write lots of code as maintainer and primary developer of our API server (Rust, MongoDB).
- Bring the team together to architect technical solutions to Downstream’s business needs and produce shovel-ready design
- Improve CI/CD tooling, linting/coverage, and other tooling as appropriate, across our
- Review all changes to CMS source code, once per Drive quality improvement and enforce best practices.
- Provide tier 2 technical support for issues impacting all CMSes, including legacy Meet with clients’ technical staff as needed.
- Contribute to our js frontend application, Node.js reverse proxy, and legacy PHP applications as needed and available.
Qualifications
- 5+ years full stack development
- Expertise in a wide variety of programming The API server is Rust; our other code is JavaScript and PHP.
- Solid understanding of software
