The Role
Davidson Kempner’s Data Strategy department was formed in July 2023. The department aims to leverage the Firm’s employees and systems in a controlled, sustainable, and efficient manner to provide the Firm with timely and accurate data assets to facilitate business growth.
Role Description: Davidson Kempner’s Data Strategy department was formed in July 2023. The department aims to leverage the Firm’s employees and systems in a controlled, sustainable, and efficient manner to provide the Firm with timely and accurate data assets to facilitate business growth.
The primary functions of the Data Strategy Analyst position will be contributing to initiatives that control and enhance Davidson Kempner’s data architecture. This will include drafting and reviewing updates to the data catalog, tracking and reporting progress against data governance goals, reviewing the results of daily quality controls / resolving DQ errors impacting fund metrics, and identifying / removing duplicative information from across Davidson Kempner databases. This is an excellent opportunity for a data practitioner with a strong grasp of financial products and technology who is eager to have exposure to the full scope of departments across Davidson Kempner.
As a Data Strategy Associate you will:
- Catalog the breadth of data domains across the Firm and define key roles and responsibilities for each data set
- Monitor compliance with a comprehensive set of data quality control objectives covering the various data domains
- Investigate production DQ issues impacting fund reporting
- Analyze large data sets to provide insights as well as uncover and resolve issues
- Document front to back data flows to remove inefficiencies and ensure consistency
- Analyze the root cause of and design solutions to known data quality issues
- Track and report on progress including owning a book of work around decommissioning legacy data structures
Ideal Candidate Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience as a data practitioner
- Experience in a financial institution (buy-side or sell-side) with a breadth of knowledge of the roles involved front to back
- Breadth of knowledge across financial products including unlisted and bespoke structures
- Excellent written/spoken communication and presentation skills – ability to cater message to different audiences
- Hand-on experience with third party data management / governance tools
- Familiarity with key data governance principles, including metadata management, data quality, data ownership, and data stewardship
- Understanding of and experience with data controls and producing statistics / trend analysis on data quality
- Knowledge of the data provider landscape including vendors for both data tooling and content
- Strong technical skills around data querying, analysis, and reporting including SQL and Python (preferred)
