About Davidson Kempner

Davidson Kempner Capital Management LP is a global investment management firm. Founded in 1983, Davidson Kempner is headquartered in New York and has offices in Philadelphia, London, Dublin, Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Mumbai. Our Firm invests globally and opportunistically across the capital structure, in a variety of credit and equity strategies as well as real assets. We apply our multi-dimensional, research-driven investment process to evaluate and execute a diverse range of transactions across asset classes, geographies and market cycles. We target complex, global situations where our experience and expertise can unlock value.

We bring together exceptional people from different disciplines and backgrounds who are energized by the challenges of navigating complexity. We look for people who demonstrate exceptional critical thinking skills, innate curiosity, creativity and embrace diverse viewpoints to calibrate their decisions. These differentiators make our people successful beyond a specific job at Davidson Kempner – but throughout their journey with us over many years.

The Role

We are looking to hire an analyst with 2-5 years of relevant experience—preferably within long/short equity, but private equity and sell-side research experience will also be considered. The hire will work within a team led by partner Vince Ortiz who manages the global long-short business, and also runs a multi-billion $ AUM portfolio. This portfolio mostly consists of European stocks (and to a lesser extent U.S. stocks) using a fundamental, research-intensive approach, typically adopting a time horizon of 1 – 2 years.

The hire will be capable of diligencing new potential investments, and of closely monitoring stocks that make it into the portfolio.  Ideally, s/he will also be able to source and recommend high-quality, high-conviction ideas.

The analyst should bring sector experience/expertise in MedTech, which will be the core coverage area, with additional responsibilities to be added over time in Business Services and some Pharma.

The core London-based investment team currently consists of Vince and 4 highly experienced analysts.  Thanks to the team’s exceptional track record, AUM continues to grow.

The Person

The new hire will:

  • Deliver consistent, accurate, organized and client-ready work on time, juggle multiple projects effectively
  • Show strong analytical reasoning and curiosity; be thoughtful in consistently generating ideas and making improvements; have a solution mindset when faced with problems
  • Demonstrate an understanding of client / stakeholder's needs and deliver appropriate solutions that align with the department's priorities; apply industry / market and job specific knowledge to meet those needs
  • Be an effective, organized and clear communicator in both written and verbal format; present information simply, including complex and technical content
  • Ask for and offer honest and constructive feedback; demonstrate an openness to feedback, and willingness to learn and look for opportunity to further develop
