Senior Director, Tech Assessment – Gas-Fired Power Plant

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Senior Director, Tech Assessment for Gas-Fired Power Plant will lead technical evaluations during the development of new power plants, including plant conceptualization, design, and equipment assessment. In the asset acquisition phase, this role oversees the technical evaluation of power assets. The Senior Director manages engineering teams responsible for technical assessments and collaborates closely with business development and fuel sourcing organizations, contributing to the success of new business development initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Lead all phases of technical evaluation for gas-fired power plant development projects.
- Oversee site identification, grid interconnection assessment, and land acquisition for new project locations.
- Manage feasibility studies and technical due diligence, including system design and environmental evaluations.
- Oversee regulatory and permitting processes to ensure the project complies with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
- Coordinate fuel supply plans and pipeline arrangements with the fuel sourcing team and incorporate these into the technical assessment.
- Assess technical risks of project and develop mitigation strategies for project safety, reliability, and environmental impact.
- Prepare and present technical reports for investment cases, and project updates to senior management.
- Ensure project plans meet required codes, standards, and industry best practices.
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience in power plant business development.
- Demonstrated ability to manage timelines, budgets, quality, and risk for large-scale power plant projects.
- Proven skills in identifying new business opportunities, market analysis, commercial feasibility assessments, and contract negotiations.
- Preferably possess specialized knowledge of gas turbine power generation (environmental, safety, electrical systems).
- Experience with permitting procedures, environmental impact assessments, and negotiations with regulatory agencies for U.S. power projects.
- Strong collaboration, stakeholder communication, and team management abilities.
- Experience negotiating power purchase agreements (PPA), vendor, and supplier contracts.
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, energy, business, economics, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
Compensation: $190,000 to $250,000 salary
