The Opportunity

As the Engineering Leader, you will play a critical role in advancing the technical vision and execution across 1848 Ventures. Your leadership will shape the development and integration of AI-powered products, while fostering high-performing engineering team that deliver measurable value to the industries we serve.

What You’ll Do

Set the Technical Vision and Strategy

  • Define and execute a strategic technical roadmap that drives alignment with 1848 Ventures' overall goals and OKRs.
  • Identify and prioritize opportunities to integrate AI/ML capabilities into our product portfolio, ensuring innovative and impactful solutions.
  • Define technical standards and frameworks that ensure alignment across ventures and long-term scalability.

Drive Technical Excellence

  • Lead the development and deployment of scalable, robust AI/ML models and algorithms, ensuring alignment with product requirements.
  • Establish and optimize infrastructure, data pipelines, and deployment processes to ensure systems are resilient, scalable, and secure.
  • Implement monitoring, alerting, and performance optimization strategies to ensure continuous delivery and uptime of deployed solutions.
  • Stay ahead of emerging AI/ML trends and technologies to maintain our competitive edge.

Build and Lead High-Performing Teams

  • Recruit, mentor, lead, and retain top engineering talent, fostering a culture of diversity, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide technical leadership and coaching to teams across portfolio companies, ensuring alignment with business goals.

Drive Execution and Delivery

  • Oversee the delivery of complex software development projects, meeting quality, budget, and timeline objectives.
  • Implement agile methodologies and champion a culture of continuous integration and delivery.
  • Balance strategic planning with tactical execution to ensure the delivery of impactful products and features.

Collaborate and Communicate

  • Partner with data scientists, product managers, and other stakeholders to align AI/ML capabilities with business needs.
  • Build strong relationships with portfolio company founders and leadership to drive collaboration and success.
  • Clearly communicate technical updates, progress, and challenges to investors, partners, and internal teams.

 

Who You Are

You are a visionary technical leader with deep expertise in AI/ML and software engineering. Your strategic mindset and operational skills enable you to build high-performing teams and drive impactful innovation in dynamic environments.

  • 10+ years in software engineering, with 5+ years in a senior leadership role and leading people.
  • Proven track record of building and scaling engineering teams and delivering complex AI/ML-driven products.
  • Expertise in AI/ML development, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), and data engineering.
  • Strong technical knowledge paired with excellent problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • A talent for mentoring and empowering teams to achieve ambitious goals.
  • A commitment to fostering a diverse, inclusive, and innovative work environment.

Travel

This role is remote or hybrid, based on your location. While flexibility is key, we also value in-person connections. Whether you're remote or hybrid, travel may be needed for customer discovery, team building, and/or networking.
