Venture Builder –Technical (Pre-seed SaaS Marketplace Venture)

The Opportunity

At 1848 Ventures, we launch and test early-stage business models to identify the most promising opportunities, investing further in those that see strong market demand via standalone investment. 

We’re now building an AI-powered SaaS marketplace for small to medium-sized businesses (SMBs), tackling key market gaps with scalable solutions. As a Technical Venture Builder, you’ll drive the technical experimentation, feature exploration, and ultimately MVP product development and iteration based on inmarket feedback.

This role is perfect for a hands-on technical builder who thrives in uncertainty, embraces experimentation, and balances big-picture strategy with practical execution to shape new markets.

Responsibilities

• Partner with the Venture Leader to bring this new build to life as you each complement each other in skill sets.
• Designing, building and iterating the core technology and product architecture from the ground up, based on market experimentation.
• Making foundational decisions about tools, infrastructure, and data architecture, leveraging existing 1848v catalog of cookie cutter functions where valuable.
• Collaborating with product and design lead to move fast and iterate.
• Laying the groundwork for future technical hires.
• Monitor and optimize key metrics, including model accuracy, app traffic, uptime, and development velocity.
• Act as the primary technical liaison, ensuring alignment between stakeholders, execution teams, advisors, end users, and vendors.
• Ensure compliance with data privacy, security, and industry regulations.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional experience, ideally in SaaS, marketplace, or startup environments.
• Proven experience building products from scratch—from early traction to $1M+ ARR and product-market fit.
• Experience co-founding or partnering with a commercial lead in zero-to-one execution.
• Hands-on technical leader who’s energized by shipping real things quickly.
• Comfortable with ambiguity and driven by the pace of early-stage momentum
• Thrives in small, remote teams with a collaborative, roll-up-your-sleeves mindset.
• Motivated by building products with purpose and impact—not just writing code.
• Built and scaled technical strategies using Python or Node.js, iterating based on market insights.
• Developed and executed AI/ML-powered solutions with a strong DevOps, data science, and backend/full-stack engineering foundation.
• Worked with high-growth teams in digital, data-driven businesses.
• Proven ability to align technical strategy with business goals, partnering with product and business leaders to drive results.
• Experience navigating emerging tech trends, such as AI-driven products or evolving customer needs.
• Effective communicator across teams, leadership, investors, and external stakeholders.

• Venture studio experience is a strong plus.

Travel

This role is remote or hybrid, based on your location. While flexibility is key, we also value in-person connections. Whether you're remote or hybrid, travel may be needed for customer discovery, team building, and/or networking.
