The Opportunity
At Propel People, we’re transforming how the skilled trades hire—bringing modern, AI-powered solutions to the construction industry, a sector long underserved by traditional HR tech. We’re an early-stage startup born within a venture studio that’s dedicated to solving real-world problems for real businesses.
We’re backed by 1848 Ventures and ship products fast: React on the edge, Python serverless in the cloud, and Terraform to glue it all together. If you want to own features end-to-end UI, Lambda, IaC, and everything in between, this is your playground to experiment, learn and grow quickly. As our Fullstack Engineer, you’ll be a part of a high growth company where speed and iteration are key.
What You’ll Do
- Own product slices end-to-end: sketch UX, code, test, ship, and measure
- QA features to ensure they meet customer needs
- Automate everything—tests (GitHub Actions), Terraform modules, container builds, serverless deployments
- Quickly squash bugs and continuously tune for performance and cost
- Build daily in our React + Vite SPA (TanStack Router, React-Query, MUI Joy)
- Write clean, testable, efficient code
- Extend microservices on AWS Fargate (Twilio, third-party HR integrations)
- Instrument code with Grafana Faro, logs, and traces – monitor via dashboards you build
- Build and maintain Python Lambdas (SQLAlchemy → Postgres, S3, SQS, Cognito, SageMaker)
- Contribute across the dev lifecycle – collaborate with product stakeholders, writing tech specs & RFCs, to feature release and operations
- Build web apps and APIs in TypeScript/Python on Node.js and FastAPI (AWS-based)
- Partner with design and eng to ship features that scale with demand
Who You Are
We’re looking for a well-rounded engineer with strong frontend skills and working backend knowledge. You don’t need to check every box but here’s what a strong fit might look like:
Core Skills
- This is a mid-level role ideal for engineers with around 3 to 5 years of hands-on development experience.
- Experience building SPAs in React/TypeScript with modern state management and routing
- Fluency in Python or strong JS/TS with interest in Python Lambdas
- Comfortable writing SQL and using ORMs (SQLAlchemy/Postgres)
- Familiar with at least one backend language (TypeScript, Python, or Ruby)
- Proven history shipping in AWS (or other major cloud platforms)
- Writes tests and monitors code in production
- Startup mindset: bias for action, comfortable with ambiguity, eager to talk to users
Nice-to-Haves
- Serverless Framework, Terraform, or CDK experience
- CI/CD knowledge (GitHub Actions preferred)
- AWS tools like Cognito, S3 presigned URLs, SQS/SNS, Fargate
- Exposure to data /analytics tools (Grafana, Redash) or ML-powered features
- Mobile dev experience (Flutter or React Native)
- Past work integrating third-party APIs (HRIS, Stripe, Twilio, WhatsApp/Telegram APIs, etc.)
