The Opportunity

1848 Ventures is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated undergraduate or graduate student to join our team as a Software Engineering Intern. This 10-week internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in developing innovative digital products that help small and medium-sized businesses grow. You will assist our team in building and refining software solutions that support the ideation, testing, and launch of new ventures. This is a chance to learn from experienced professionals in an agile, diverse, and multi-disciplinary environment.


What You’ll Do

During your internship, you will:

  • Assist in Software Development: Collaborate with team members to support the design and development of software solutions for new ventures.
  • Contribute to the Software Development Lifecycle: Participate in various stages of the software development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, design, implementation, testing, and deployment. Implement common functionality and infrastructure to support the product template library.
  • Gain Experience with Modern Technologies: Assist in developing applications using technologies such as AWS, Python, Node.js, and React. Embed functionality, tasks, and tools into AI Agents.
  • Support Data Integration: Learn how software is built to be data-driven and integrated with various data solutions.
  • Learn Best Practices: Contribute to the development and refinement of software engineering best practices and processes.
  • Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams: Work alongside designers, data scientists, and business stakeholders to optimize infrastructure across venture environments and understand how software solutions meet customer needs and business objectives.
  • Stay Up to Date on Emerging Technologies: Learn about and explore current trends and technologies in software engineering.
  • Participate in Team Meetings and Discussions: Contribute to team discussions and learn about the venture development process.
  • Shadowing and Mentorship: Shadow experienced engineers and receive mentorship to enhance your skills.


Who You Are

We are looking for students who:

  • Are currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program, with a concentration in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Have a strong interest in full stack software development.
  • Desire to contribute at the earliest development stage to Seed Round.
  • Possess a basic understanding of programming concepts and languages (e.g. Python, JavaScript).
  • Are eager to learn and work with modern web technologies.
  • Have strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Possess solid communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Are a team player.
  • Have a basic understanding of, or interest in, cloud technologies.


Bonus Points If

  • You have a genuine interest in early-stage startups and innovation.
  • You are comfortable with ambiguity and enjoy tackling new challenges.
  • You have experience with data analysis and/or research.


Internship Details

  • Duration: 10 weeks
  • Start/End Dates: June 2 – August 8
  • Location: Remote
  • Compensation: Paid Internship
  • Learning Outcomes: Gain practical experience in full stack software development, learn modern web technologies, understand the software development lifecycle, and collaborate with a cross-functional team.
