Chief of Staff - VP of Strategy and Operations

Boston, MA

Company Overview

1910 Genetics is a Series A stage biotechnology company that is pioneering a novel Input-Transform-Output (ITO) platform as the first ever horizontal AI infrastructure for drug discovery.

In a crowded space with hundreds of AI drug discovery companies, 1910’s ITO platform is differentiated by:

  • Modality agnostic drug discovery: our platform is capable of designing both small molecule and large molecule therapeutics across all disease areas, with an initial focus on neuroscience, oncology, and autoimmune diseases.
  • Proprietary massive multimodal data, which overcomes the data scarcity problem that prevents frontier AI models from being utilized for drug discovery.
  • Multi-AI agent systems that include a robust collection of frontier AI/ML models, each of which works in a task-oriented manner to achieve the multi-parameter optimization problem of drug discovery and development.
  • A state-of-the-art (SOTA) fully-automated, high throughput wet laboratory in the premier Boston Seaport District for both data generation for AI model training as well as validation of the safety and efficacy of drug candidates that are outputted by our frontier AI models.
  • An unprecedented partnership with Microsoft, which positions 1910 as the only biotech/pharma company leveraging Azure Quantum Elements, a groundbreaking, AI-driven, high performance computing (HPC) cloud architecture for advanced AI.
  • Bespoke conversational AI chatbots that provide a customer friendly UI/UX to access our platform for specific drug discovery tasks.
  • Being the only biotech company helping pharma companies integrate 6 core areas of AI infrastructure.

Role Description

  • Partner with the CEO and other members of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to harmonize departmental goals, working with the leaders of the following groups – AI Research, Engineering, Product, Computational Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Biology, Business Development, and Operations
  • Collaborate with the senior leadership team (SLT) to develop and implement strategic plans that align with 1910’s mission and long-term objectives
  • Oversee the development and implementation of operational processes to enhance organizational efficiency, including the creation of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and metrics to measure and optimize performance at the function and company level
  • Implement change management strategies to drive adoption of new processes and ways of working
  • Act as a liaison between the CEO, Executive team, and other stakeholders to ensure effective communication

Strategy

  • Support planned and ad hoc discussions with existing and prospective investors in 1910 Genetics
  • In collaboration with functional teams and leadership, prepare presentation materials for investors, including pitch decks and conference presentations
  • Participate in and support CEO’s preparation for negotiations with potential partners
  • Support development of commercial forecasts and valuations, including scenario-based modeling
  • Conduct secondary and primary research as necessary to assess commercial opportunities

Operations

  • Develop and implement analytics capabilities to provide real-time insights on operational performance and progress

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of progressive experience as a high achiever at venture-backed biotechnology or technology startups
  • Previous experience in management consulting (i.e. McKinsey/Bain/BCG), venture capital, or private equity
  • MBA from a top business school is ideal for this role
  • In addition to an MBA, a PhD in the life sciences is a strong plus but not required
  • 99th percentile energy, 1st percentile ego; this job is too collaborative to have an ego
  • Supreme sense of ownership – this job is first and foremost about helping “Owners” (i.e. the SLT) overachieve. In order to do that, you have to have a strong ownership mindset
  • Exceptional sense of urgency – this is not a 9 to 5 job. It’s also not your “last act” or “retirement job”. You’ve got to be someone who moves fast (but doesn’t break things). You recognize that speed is one of the biggest advantages that a startup has, and so you leverage that every single day
  • Grit. People refer to you as a Hustler. You move mountains, walk on water…whatever it takes, you get things done. You’re allergic to excuses because they’re…well, excuses
  • You have a track record of getting a team of very different people, with very different backgrounds/skills, and very different individual & departmental goals to move in a single direction. Ergo, you know how to manage personalities
  • You aspire to become a startup Founder or C-suite executive, specifically CEO, COO, CFO, CBO. This role will more than prepare you for all of these paths
  • You’re excited about partnering with the CEO on a daily basis, and helping her to efficiently and effectively manage the Board of Directors, SLT, and company as a whole
  • You’re passionate about the potential for AI to transform drug discovery and development

Nice to Haves

  • Previous consulting experience in the life sciences/drug discovery space

Race & Ethnicity Definitions

If you believe you belong to any of the categories of protected veterans listed below, please indicate by making the appropriate selection. As a government contractor subject to the Vietnam Era Veterans Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), we request this information in order to measure the effectiveness of the outreach and positive recruitment efforts we undertake pursuant to VEVRAA. Classification of protected categories is as follows:

A "disabled veteran" is one of the following: a veteran of the U.S. military, ground, naval or air service who is entitled to compensation (or who but for the receipt of military retired pay would be entitled to compensation) under laws administered by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs; or a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

A "recently separated veteran" means any veteran during the three-year period beginning on the date of such veteran's discharge or release from active duty in the U.S. military, ground, naval, or air service.

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
