The Team:
The NBA Tech Art team is a diverse group of dedicated Technical Artists that perform a wide variety of tasks. We write and maintain tools for the art department, rig the characters, props, and clothing, and do a lot of problem solving.
What We Need:
The Novato team is looking for a cloth simulation technical artist (temporary), who will be responsible for creating realistic clothing simulations, optimized for our propriety game engine. This role reports to the Lead Technical Artist.
What You Will Do:
- Setup simulations using Havok Cloth software for character clothing.
- Use proxy meshes, colliders, backstop, and other cloth physics settings in Havok. Test the resulting simulations in game engine and ensure they meet performance requirements.
- Collaborate with Character artists to refine meshes to ensure the best simulation outcome. Address feedback notes from Art Direction to meet visual expectations.
- Identify areas for improvement in our existing cloth pipeline
- Collaborate with a team of other technical artists, support art teams directly, and work closely with engineers
Who Will Be A Great Fit:
- Experience with Havok Cloth software.
- Some modeling experience to create Proxy meshes for simulation.
- Having a keen eye for a variety of fabric behavior (denim, silk, cotton, etc.)
- Strong foundation in physics and anatomy
- Experience in writing tools, scripts, and pipeline development, ideally for games or visual effects
- You exhibit a mastery of cloth simulation and have a working knowledge of Maya
- Love for video games (not just ours!)
Nice To Have:
- Experience with Marvelous Designer.
- Experience in Python and C#
- Hands-on scripting and technical tools pipeline development to refine and improve our workflow
- Writing tools that work with Perforce or other version control software
This is a fully remote role that may be based anywhere in the United States. Below are the expected salary and wage ranges for applicants based in locations where the pay transparency law is in effect: California: $41p/hr - $57p/hr. New York State (inclusive of New York City): $37p/hr - $51p/hr. Washington: $41p/hr - $57p/hr. New Jersey: $37p/hr - $51p/hr. British Columbia: CAD $34p/hr - $48p/hr. Base pay offered is based on market location, and may vary further depending on individualized factors for job candidates, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to those same considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a bonus and/or equity awards, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
