Summary

The Senior Tax Analyst will be performing sales and use tax compliance for multiple states. Ensure timely filing of returns and payments for related liabilities.  Other duties that will be performed are related to sales and use tax, business licenses, property tax, income tax, and customer onboarding with regards to taxability as well as reviewing sales tax exemption forms. This position will assist the Tax Department in resolving customers’ sales tax concerns and questions to promote greater customer loyalty and improved customer service.

Major/Key Accountabilities

  • Analyzing sales tax data, preparing, and reviewing, sales and use tax returns in a multi-state environment
  • Review sales tax exemption forms for customers to provide improved customer satisfaction while maintaining compliance with state and local tax regulations
  • Coordinate with the Credit and Collections Department to provide refunds to customers. This includes reviewing transactions and documentation, initiating internal refund requests, and tracking information for future reference.  In certain instances, filing refund claims with the jurisdictions will also be required
  • Maintain and apply the technical knowledge and skills required to evaluate and resolve various sales and use tax, personal property tax, business licenses, and income tax issues
  • Coordinate with plant locations and other departments to file revenue-based business licenses
  • Effectively and efficiently manage multiple detailed tasks required to timely file and pay sales & use taxes, property taxes, business licenses, and income tax liabilities
  • Implement improvement projects to enhance information used for internal reporting, compliance, and audit activities
  • Cross train with other team members including but not limited to vendor transaction review and use tax payments associated with such

Measures:

  • Accuracy and timeliness of preparing and submitting sales tax data, and property tax data to tax return preparers
  • Accuracy and timeliness of paying property taxes, business licenses, and income taxes
  • Number and timeliness of sales tax refunds processed to completion
  • Number and timeliness of customer accounts reviewed for taxability (reviewing of sales tax exemption forms)
  • Accuracy of applying taxability standards to customers and increasing customer satisfaction
  • Accuracy of research information provided

Authority/Decision Making:

  • Review customers sales tax exemption forms and approve if valid after tax due diligence
  • Initiate internal refund requests for sales tax related issues for manager approval
  • Initiate funding requests to submit tax payments related to sales and use taxes, property taxes, business licenses, and income taxes for manager approval
  • Working with service providers to resolve issues with taxing jurisdictions with minimal supervision from the manager
  • Assisting with audit data under manager supervision

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree with emphasis in Accounting/Taxation

Experience:

3+ years of experience preparing and reviewing sales and use tax returns, particularly in a multi-state environment, reviewing sales tax exemption forms in the United States, researching complex tax issues, experience with tangible personal property and service tax laws in manufacturing, and providing customer service to large national external customers as well as internal customers.

Skills/Knowledge:

  • Ability to perform sales & use tax analysis, and provide consulting around practices and procedures with internal and external customers
  • Ability to correctly interpret complex tax laws and regulations
  • Be an individual contributor who demonstrates leadership skills, have comprehensive knowledge and principles of sales and use taxes
  • Identify, communicate, and conduct strategic audits/refunds to recover sales/use tax exposure amounts and overpayments
  • Recommend, drive, and follow through on compliance process improvements to increase efficiencies and reduce tax exposure
  • Skilled to determining root cause of customer complaints and providing solutions that satisfy the customer while remaining compliant with state/local laws and regulations
  • Ability to juggle conflicting priorities to meet tight deadlines and is initiative-taking in requesting assistance from manager to ensure priorities are set correctly
  • Contributes professionally and effectively to team/department during daily operations and special projects
  • Ability to multi-task multiple projects, have strong time management skills, and have strong attention to detail
  • Ability to engage in open and honest collaboration with team members
  • Assumes ownership and execution of individual responsibilities
  • High level of proficiency and familiarity with Excel (higher functions such as pivot tables)
  • Familiar with third party platforms such as Vertex, Avalara, Ryan LLC.

Salary is dependent on experience and can shift; however, this is our starting target range.

Targeted Salary Range

$70,000 - $82,000 USD
