Engineering Manager - Communications, Decisions Alliance (m/f/x)

The role

As an Engineering Lead within the Communications Tribe, you will take ownership of designing, building, and scaling the Send Decisioning Layer (SDL)—a critical system that drives customer communication across multiple channels. This platform empowers HelloFresh to make data-driven decisions about message timing, frequency, and delivery channels, ensuring our communication is tailored to our customers preferences, timely, and effective.

You will lead the engineering roadmap for this platform, focusing on high availability, scalability, and modularity while solving complex technical challenges. With a focus on engineering best practices, you will also collaborate with data scientists to integrate advanced models and insights into the SDL. This is a unique opportunity to define the technical foundation of a system that impacts millions of customers globally.

What you’ll do

  • Engineering Leadership: Inspire and manage a team of engineers to design and deliver scalable, high-performance solutions that enhance customer engagement.
  • Platform Architecture: Own the end-to-end architecture of the SDL, ensuring it is robust, modular, and scalable to handle billions of communications annually.
  • Collaboration Across Teams: Partner with Product Managers, Campaign Managers, and Data Scientists to align technical objectives with business goals and leverage data insights effectively.
  • Operational Excellence: Establish and champion engineering best practices, ensuring reliable system operations, monitoring, and feedback loops for continuous improvement.
  • Integration with Data Science: Collaborate with data science teams to embed machine learning models and optimization algorithms into the platform to enhance personalization and decision-making.
  • Innovation and Experimentation: Foster a culture of technical innovation, experimenting with new tools, technologies, and approaches to improve the SDL.
  • Global Scaling: Build solutions that can scale efficiently across HelloFresh’s global customer base, ensuring high availability and minimal latency.

What you’ll bring

  • Engineering Expertise: Strong experience in designing and building scalable, event-driven, and microservice-based architectures. Expertise in high-availability systems and complex engineering problem-solving.
  • Technical Leadership: Proven ability to lead and mentor engineering teams, delivering impactful solutions in fast-paced, dynamic environments.
  • Focus on Automation: Experience with automation and CI/CD pipelines to streamline deployment and ensure operational efficiency.
  • Collaboration Skills: Strong ability to work across teams, aligning engineering efforts with product, marketing, and analytics needs.
  • Data Awareness: While not required, familiarity with machine learning, predictive modeling, or optimization techniques is a strong plus. Experience collaborating with data science teams or integrating their models into production systems is highly valued.
  • Customer-Centric Thinking: An understanding of customer engagement metrics and their implications for engineering design and delivery.
  • [Preferred] Experience with CRM systems, marketing platforms (e.g., Salesforce Einstein, DESelect), or communication platforms.
