Data Engineer (P795)
We are a full stack data science company and a wholly owned subsidiary of The Kroger Company. We own 10 Petabytes of data, and collect 35+ Terabytes of new data each week sourced from 62 Million households. As a member of our engineering team you will use various cutting edge technologies to develop applications that turn our data into actionable insights used to personalize the customer experience for shoppers at Kroger. We use agile development methodology, starting with Big Room Planning bringing everyone into the planning process to build scalable enterprise applications.
SUMMARY:
As a Data Engineer at 84.51°, you will collaborate with the team to design, build, and maintain data pipelines that transform raw data into structured, high-quality datasets. You’ll work with technologies like Azure, Databricks, Python, PySpark, and SQL to support data product development, while also contributing to the development and support of backend services and APIs built using Spring Boot and Java.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Take ownership of stories and drive them to completion through all phases of the entire 84.51° SDLC. This includes external facing and internal applications as well as process improvement activities such as:
- Collaborate with team members to design and develop data assets.
- Develop Databricks jobs and workflows for data processing.
- Perform API development using Java and Spring Boot.
- Participate in code reviews and write unit and integration tests to ensure code quality.
- Partner with senior resources, gaining insights.
- Participate in the estimation process for new work and releases.
- Bring new perspectives to problems.
- Be driven to improve yourself and the way things are done.
- Follow Agile practices, participate in team ceremonies, and work in a collaborative, iterative development environment.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree typically in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Mathematics, Business Analytics or another technically strong program.
- Proficient in SQL.
- Proficient in programming with Python and/or Java.
- Experience working with Microsoft Azure or other cloud platforms.
- Experience with Databricks.
- Understanding of Agile Principles (Scrum).
- Exposure to relational data modeling, and data warehousing concepts
- Exposure to ETL concepts; Hadoop/HDFS/PySpark; VCS (Git, Github)
PREFERRED SKILLS:
- Experience or familiarity with building APIs using Java Spring Boot or similar frameworks

- The stated salary range represents the entire span applicable across all geographic markets from lowest to highest. Actual salary offers will be determined by multiple factors including but not limited to geographic location, relevant experience, knowledge, skills, other job-related qualifications, and alignment with market data and cost of labor. In addition to salary, this position is also eligible for variable compensation.

$73,000 - $125,350 USD
