DATA SCIENCE MANAGER

 

SUMMARY:

The SCORe (Supply Chain, Operations, and Replenishment) team is looking for a Data Science Manager. This role will support end-to-end supply chain workstreams with a focus on leading the science and talent developing new decision science tools in the warehouse inventory replenishment space. Ideal candidates will bring a focus of business acumen in the Supply Chain industry and have familiarity with 84.51° and Kroger data assets. The role most closely aligns with a mix of technical and statistical profiles with an emphasis on supply chain domain knowledge.

We are seeking a Data Science Manager who will serve as both a leader and a contributor within our Inventory Replenishment Innovation & Sciences (IRIS) team. The IRIS team has recently rolled out their first decision science product, with 2-3 additional sciences planned. The role should leverage and enhance existing simulation tools and decision science frameworks. This Data Science Manager will partner closely with Product and Engineering leaders to develop the science roadmap, draft requirements, and ensure alignment with Supply Chain business and KTD partners. Additionally, this role will foster a collaborative and innovative team environment to drive forward our inventory science plans. As a first-level people leader, the manager balances team leadership with hands-on contributions to drive innovation and excellence in data science.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead and manage a team of data scientists, providing mentorship, guidance, and support to ensure high performance and professional growth.
  • Oversee the development and refinement of cutting-edge decision science methodologies, ensuring science rigor and business relevance, translating business requirements into data science work.
  • Partner with Product Management and Engineering counterparts to align on opportunities optimizing inventory planning with strategic business goals.
  • Think creatively when building analytics solutions to bring the most value to the user, balancing analytical rigor and practicality.
  • Monitor project progress, identify potential risks, and implement mitigation strategies to ensure timely delivery and high-quality outcomes.
  • Facilitate effective communication across a diverse set of stakeholders, including business stakeholders, KTD systems teams, KTD data teams, and leadership.
  • Collaborate closely with the Engineering team on the dependent system data ETL refinement.
  • Promote adherence to best practices in data science, including reproducibility, validation, documentation, and methodology governance.
  • Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and advancements in inventory planning to drive innovation within the team.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, analytics, data science or related discipline
  • 4+ years of experience in extracting insights from large databases, translating into actionable solutions and presenting findings and recommendations to clients  
  • 4+ years of experience using advanced algorithms, programming languages, or technologies in the development of technical analytics solutions or capabilities.
  • Experience leading others in project work.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with a focus on delivering productionalized solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of optimization, simulation, and decision science
  • Strong business acumen; supply chain experience is a plus.

  • The stated salary range represents the entire span applicable across all geographic markets from lowest to highest.  Actual salary offers will be determined by multiple factors including but not limited to geographic location, relevant experience, knowledge, skills, other job-related qualifications, and alignment with market data and cost of labor. In addition to salary, this position is also eligible for variable compensation.

Pay Range

$121,000 - $201,250 USD
