Supplier Impact Maximization (SIM) is a cross-functional team that enjoys working through challenging problems that have real-world impact. The SIM process spans the data science lifecycle: managing large upstream data assets, creating complex models, and delivering insights. SIM aims to make people’s lives easier through surfacing insights that weren’t previously available and providing actionable recommendations for stakeholders.
SIM data scientists must be proficient with the core data science tools. They must be willing to continually learn and adapt to a changing environment and develop new skills with unfamiliar tools or data across the Kroger organization. SIM data scientists are comfortable owning their portion of the roadmap and working with a range of stakeholders.
This role’s focus is on moving decision makers at Kroger and 84.51° to understand and use SIM to make planning decisions, and to incorporate solutions to stakeholder needs into the SIM process. The person in this role will work closely with our CSA partners to show stakeholders where SIM insights can help drive their business and will build key features from this work into the SIM product. Success in the role will involve a strong insights skillset paired with competence and passion in the technical aspects of data science.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work with CSA partners on activations with Kroger stakeholders, surfacing insights and helping to weave them into a compelling story.
- Own the short-term technical work associated with specific activations.
- Own certain long-term integrations into the process, working closely with lead DSRs to make learnings scale.
- Execute with sound data science principles and a clear goal of end-user engagement.
- Bring insights and ideas (both technical and business focused) that will make the SIM process and its outputs more effective.
- Demonstrate a bias toward action, turning ideas into reality quickly.
- Proactively suggest ways to improve the process and deliverable; effectively communicate the value of improvements and the effort involved
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:
- 2+ years of working with big data, advanced statistics, and programming with a focus on bringing insights from these tools to business stakeholders.
- Passion for applying data driven insights to real-world decisions; comfort with the tension that can exist between modelled recommendations and real-world priors and constraints.
- Demonstrated success delivering statistically reliable insights and data visualizations to impact business decisions.
- Bias for smart experimentation; comfortable taking calculated risks with uncertain outcomes.
- Experience with LLM tooling where appropriate; desire to learn and adopt new tech that advances the product.
- Strong proficiency in Python; experience with Spark or similar distributed compute.
- Experience in Power BI, Dash, or other BI/reporting data visualization tools.
- Strong data wrangling, cleaning, and feature engineering skills.
- Possesses a product mindset, focused on iterating toward an ever-improving solution.
- Familiarity with big-data tools and architectures (e.g., Spark, Hive, Hadoop, if applicable).
- Strong interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong business acumen and grocery/retail experience.
- Passion for data and insights; natural curiosity and comfort with change.

- The stated salary range represents the entire span applicable across all geographic markets from lowest to highest. Actual salary offers will be determined by multiple factors including but not limited to geographic location, relevant experience, knowledge, skills, other job-related qualifications, and alignment with market data and cost of labor. In addition to salary, this position is also eligible for variable compensation.

Pay Range
$97,000 - $166,750 USD
