The Portfolio & Operations Lead is responsible for driving portfolio execution and operational excellence for one or more medium-to-large Business Teams.
This role partners with the Director, Strategy and Execution and Business Team leadership with ownership of portfolio management processes and operational delivery.
This role works in close collaboration with Business Leaders, Strategy Office partners, and cross-functional teams to ensure that portfolios are structured, prioritized, and executed in a way that delivers against both near-term objectives and long-term strategic goals.
This role ensures the Business Team operates with clarity, consistency, and discipline by managing core business operations, coordinating cross-team activities, supporting leadership forums, and enabling teams to focus on delivering results.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Portfolio
- Strategic Planning – Operationalizes the Business Teams’ (BT) strategy through creation and maintenance of BT portfolio hierarchy in partnership with Business Leadership, ensuring the Business Teams’ portfolios are optimized and enabled to deliver against the long and short-term strategic goals of the business
- Strategic Leadership Identify and drive alignment across critical dependencies and risks in the portfolio. Provide advice, analytics and actionable insights to key stakeholders and decision makers for investment and prioritization decision-making; Facilitates portfolio management meetings, ceremonies and processes for assigned Business Teams
- Operational Excellence – Ensures portfolio metadata is completed and maintained (intake and prioritization process, data accuracy, data synchronization with other platforms) by effectively engaging and influencing the accountable leaders and helping to offload some of the duplicative data requirements between systems
- Benefits Realization – Partner with Finance team to leverage Value Framework to measure how portfolio initiatives deliver value to the enterprise and key stakeholders
Business Operations
- Strategic Partnership – Serve as the central coordination point for the Director, Kroger Model Strategy & Execution Leader and Business Team leadership
- Strategic Planning - Coordinate deliverables connected to annual/quarterly/periodic planning and reporting as needed. Support rollout of new processes, governance updates, or business-wide communications.
- Operational Excellence – Help teams adopt new ways of working by providing clear expectations, documentation, and training. Supports the BT’s weekly, monthly, and quarterly operating rhythms and manage recurring reporting responsibilities (e.g., weekly business updates, KPI reporting, status summaries, All Hands Meeting decks).
- Benefits Realization – Maintain dashboards, trackers, and templates used in operational reviews.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s Degree required.
- 4–7 years of experience in Project, Program, and/or Portfolio Management, preferably with complex, cross-functional, or large-scale engagements.
- Demonstrated experience working in a matrixed environment with multiple stakeholders (e.g., business, technology, product, finance).
- Strong portfolio management and planning skills, including prioritization, scenario modeling, and resource/capacity considerations.
- Proven ability to translate strategy into actionable portfolios and to connect high-level goals to specific initiatives and measurable outcomes.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to turn data into insights and clear recommendations for senior leaders.
- Strong communication, facilitation, and influencing skills; comfortable presenting to and challenging senior stakeholders in a constructive way.
- High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple initiatives and stakeholders simultaneously.
- Proactive, collaborative, and approachable; able to develop trusted advisor relationships with Business Team leaders and project/program owners.
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
- Experience with portfolio or project management tools (e.g., Strategic Portfolio Management platforms, Shibumi, PPM solutions); advanced Excel and/or data visualization (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) is a plus.

- The stated salary range represents the entire span applicable across all geographic markets from lowest to highest. Actual salary offers will be determined by multiple factors including but not limited to geographic location, relevant experience, knowledge, skills, other job-related qualifications, and alignment with market data and cost of labor. In addition to salary, this position is also eligible for variable compensation.

Pay Range
$99,000 - $146,000 USD
