The opportunity:
The Import/Export Operator role, based in Melbourne, will play a pivotal role in building Flexport Australia’s operations, supporting our mission to make global trade easier for everyone. As only the fifth employee in the region you will wear many hats and will be instrumental in delivering the growth of Flexport within the region. You will develop a deep knowledge of the local market, engage key stakeholders, and build a culture of excellence.
Your direct customers are internal and external stakeholders: our clients, account management, customs, carriers, terminals, trucking providers, and more. You will be responsible for being the end-to-end operations across all modes (FCL, LCL and Air), with a particular focus on imports.
Scope of Duties:
- Execute end-to-end shipments (FCL, LCL, Air, import, export) including bookings, documentation, and milestone updates.
- Timely shipment troubleshooting and exception escalation / handling
- Communicate directly with carriers, trucking providers, CFS/warehouse operators to ensure shipments are on time.
- Update and maintain data accuracy in Flexport systems to meet KPIs and client expectations.
- Support account managers and customs teams to deliver great client experience.
- Proactively suggest process improvements to make operations more efficient.
What you will need:
- An Australia or New Zealand passport
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, logistics, or related field.
- 2+ years of experience in freight forwarding, supply chain, or logistics operations
- Good understanding of customs, carrier practices, and the regional logistics landscape.
- Hands-on, process-oriented, structured thinking with strong problem-solving capabilities
- Keen interest in technology adoption
