Director of Post Production

The Director of Post Production will oversee the Post department, directly managing multiple Post executives, collaborate with production and vendors to plan the best post-production workflow (pre-production through archive) to achieve the creative vision, including staffing/crew, post facilities and vendors, technical specifications, proper finishing requirements, and schedules for all films. 

They will oversee post for film to create seamless finishing strategies that ensure creative goals are achieved and deadlines are met within budget. Role will offer key strategic opportunities to streamline post-production across a robust slate with an emphasis on cross functional collaboration. Strong leadership, communication, and time-management skills are essential, as is the ability to oversee a team with multiple projects and initiatives in a fast-paced environment.

This position can be based in our New York or West Hollywood offices, with a preference for NY-based candidates. 

Responsibilities

Post for Film

  • Oversee production and post-production plan for film slate to ensure optimal finishing at the highest quality within budget
  • Manage members of post team, assigning projects, providing regular feedback and guidance for career development
  • Partner with film production teams to ensure proper staffing and budget for post needs
  • Compose and communicate budget notes and escalate high level concerns before budgets are locked
  • Monitor how each film is tracking against the approved budget and schedule in order to flag any concerns and ensure producers and post supervisors are problem solving as needed
  • Review picture, sound, and VFX bids to guarantee successful delivery within budget and ensure deliverables are accounted for
  • Attend final mix playback sessions with filmmakers and approve final feature deliverables such as final DCP and theatrical Atmos versions
  • Communicate high-level post updates succinctly in post, production, and key leadership meetings
  • Act as point of escalation for team when there are potential financial, creative, technical, or deadline problems for their projects
  • Troubleshoot any picture or sound QC issues with the delivery team
  • Bridge post with international servicing teams as needed to ensure festival planning and localization goals are achieved
  • Disseminate best content sharing practices, workflow, and policies, enforcing compliance for dailies and cuts via Flow Capture
  • Review post calendars to communicate availability of materials for internal distribution and international sales teams and troubleshoot changes to the schedule that may affect delivery
  • Develop efficient legal delivery protocol to ensure main and end titles are accurate
  • Aid in the finishing of marketing and international promo and trailer assets that utilize dailies and help locate materials as needed
  • Coordinate feature content for research screenings and premieres and attend tech checks to guarantee successful exhibition
  • Research new and emerging digital production and post-production technologies, remote services, and new media platforms that utilize A.I. to increase efficiency
  • Identify innovation opportunities for visual effects across the slate
  • Advocate the continuous improvement of our tools and processes throughout all stages of the development and production cycles

Ideal Candidate

  • Minimum 12+ years experience within post and delivery. Exposure to and experience with international servicing strategy is a plus.
  • 6+ years experience in people management and building, leading, and developing teams
  • Organized and extremely detailed oriented 
  • Motivated self-starter skilled in multitasking and time management 
  • Creative problem solver that thrives in a fast-paced environment 
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship management skills
  • Familiar with high quality finishing vendors for picture, VFX and sound 
  • Familiar with IMAX, 4K HDR and Dolby Atmos workflow 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Premiere, Avid, Media Shuttle, Flow Capture a plus

Our target salary range for this role is between $200,000 and $250,000. We do not use formal job titles internally and similarly named positions may have different compensation levels. Actual starting salary within the range will depend on various considerations, including: work experience, skills, specializations, and training.
