Firmware and Hardware Developer Intern

We are looking for high caliber Electronics Engineer Interns to join our team at AAVAA in developing a cutting-edge wearable device that detects and interprets brain and bio-signals. AAVAA is a deep technology start-up in Montreal with the goal to give people control of their auditory environment, enhance the sounds they want to hear, and suppress distracting noise. Please see below for requested areas of experience. 

Basic skills: 

  • Firmware & hardware programming and debugging 
  • Development of embedded DSPs and ARM cores
  • Schematics capturing and PCB design
  • Standard electrical design tools (e.g., KiCad, Altium)
  • Serial interfaces like SPI, I2C, UART, USB
  • Hand soldering of surface mount devices
  • FreeRTOS
  • Proficient in C++, C, Python, Matlab, etc. 

Preferred skills: 

  • Mixed-signal circuits with digital and analog circuit design 
  • Sound capturing and processing using I2S/SAI interfaces
  • Experience building Cloud-based back-end systems
  • Familiarity with various DSP platforms and the trade-offs of embedded implementations
  • Experience in acoustics and consumer audio electrical engineering architecture
  • Some knowledge of machine learning and frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras, Scikit) 
  • Github 

Above and beyond: 

  • Knowledge of audio data converters (ADC’s, DAC’s and codecs)
  • Speech enhancement, such as noise reduction, acoustic echo cancellation, gain control, microphone arrays, beamforming, or source separation 
  • Industrial hardware design of hearing aids or Bluetooth audio devices 
  • Automatic speech recognition systems 
  • Ability to lead a highly multidisciplinary team and execute goals
