(Senior) Director, Pharmacology (In Vitro, In Vivo)

Position Summary:

Abiologics is seeking a highly motivated leader to progress the characterization of our Synteins in vitro and in vivo contributing all the way from hit selection to development candidate nomination, and then further supporting molecules through to IND.  The successful candidate will play a critical role in building Abiologics’s growing pipeline of SynteinsTM across various diseases areas.

As a member of our team, you will be responsible for leading a team of in vitro and in vivo scientists in designing and executing experiments to understand activity, pharmacokinetic, pharmacodynamic, mechanism of action, and therapeutic potential of Synteins. This role offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic, fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment, where you will have the chance to work independently and collaboratively within a highly integrated team. This is a on-site role in South Boston.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of scientists with a diverse range of expertise from biology, in vitro and in vivo pharmacology, biochemistry and bioanalysis, enabling progression of Syntein profiling in a fast-paced environment, while ensuring robustness and depth of data generation and interpretation for decision making
  • Oversee and contribute to in vitro and in vivo packages for progression of Synteins profiling all the way from hit selection to development candidate
  • Drive identification and implementation of assays and models that effectively serve the various projects and enable go-no-decisions, both through internal capabilities and CROs
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration and partnership with Chemistry, Screening and Computational Sciences, collaborate with and lead cross-functional teams to seamlessly progress Synteins characterization within projects
  • Collaborate with and oversee research activities conducted by Contract Research Organizations (CROs).
  • Contribute to preparing and writing documentation for Development candidate nomination and INDs.
  • Maintain scientific and technical expertise through familiarity with scientific literature.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing and ambitious team by providing mentorship, growth opportunities, and clear career development pathways.
  • Contribute to lab work (both in vitro and in vivo) as needed
  • Foster a culture of collaboration and accountability through strong cross-functional communication, ensuring alignment with key stakeholders and driving business success.
  • Contribute to building a positive, Team-oriented biotech culture.

Qualifications:

  • PhD or equivalent experience in Biology, Pharmacology or a related discipline (e.g. Medicine) with 10+ years direct pharmaceutical experience.
  • Strong experience as a people leader, with clear examples of talents development
  • Experience defining early stage go/no-go criteria and moving projects to development candidate stage. Experience discovering and developing biologics (other modalities is a plus).
  • Strong track record of programs progression to development candidate stage in Pharma or Biotech, with leading role in in vivo pharmacology package ideation and execution
  • Understanding of DMPK and Biomarkers and translational aspects from model species to human
  • Expertise to effectively guide in vitro pharmacology using systems such as primary cell culture, stable and transient protein expression, fixed and live cell imaging by IHC or immunofluorescence, flow cytometry
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and lead cross-functional teams and to effectively manage direct reports.
  • Familiarity with IND-enabling studies and preparing materials for the pharmacology section of an IND would be an asset.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively present results and scientific data to company executives, cross-functional teams, academic collaborators, and/or partners.
  • Enthusiastic about playing a pivotal role in the dynamic and multidisciplinary environment of a small biotech and passionate about fostering a  culture of collaboration
