Technical Product Owner
Technical Product Owner (TPO)
Full Time Contract Position
Our Story
Over the past several years, Able has grown immeasurably. We’ve also grown in the type of company that we are:
Chapter 1: We were founded in 2013 as a product and engineering hub for a portfolio of early-stage start-ups. We grew up as an in-house/external hybrid shared services model. That allowed us to hone our skills and establish our operational and cultural foundation.
Chapter 2: In 2019 we began to expand our vision. We began to grow outside of our inset partner base. We had good initial success meeting new partners, kicking off new relationships, and delivering high-value work.
Chapter 3: In 2023, we moved into the next phase of a new chapter, an expansion of the ambition of Chapter 2. Our strategy for growth centers around two audiences:
- Venture Capital. VC firms are looking for trusted product and technology solutions to distribute seamlessly across their portfolios at scale. The founders at their portfolio companies are looking for capabilities that can accelerate their businesses' go-to-market time, while minimizing cost and risk.
- Private Equity. PE firms are looking for trusted solutions that can catalyze growth for their portfolio companies at scale. The leaders of those companies are looking to leverage technology to unlock growth from their organizations.
Chapter 3a: We are now in the next phase of Chapter 3, aligned to our mission and vision, and accelerated by the powers of applied AI. We believe that AI will be a powerful force in the end-to-end software development lifecycle. Specifically we are creating practices that – coupled with our world class talent – can deliver software significantly faster than legacy techniques. The result is increased value for our partners, who can dramatically increase the capacity of their product organizations.
The Role
Able is seeking a Technical Product Owner to join our team and help lead two Agile Scrum teams in delivering high-impact software products for one of our key client programs.
As the TPO, you will be responsible for ensuring that the product backlog is healthy, actionable, and aligned to business and technical priorities. You will own the process of backlog grooming, story definition, acceptance criteria, and cross-team coordination to drive sprint success. Working closely with our partners and engineering teams, you will be a key driver of clarity — ensuring requirements are well understood and that delivery teams are set up to succeed.
This is a tactical and delivery-focused role with strong strategic awareness. You will help ensure the right level of technical detail, accuracy, and refinement in requirements and user stories, and foster an environment where the team can ship exceptional software with confidence.
Your Day-to-Day
As a Technical Product Owner at Able, you will:
-
Collaborate with cross-functional teams — product management, UX, engineering, project management, and client stakeholders — to ensure a shared understanding of product goals and deliverables.
-
Own and manage the backlog across two Agile Scrum teams: prioritize, groom, and refine user stories to ensure clarity and actionable requirements.
-
Drive detail and alignment: author and refine user stories, technical requirements, and acceptance criteria at the correct level of granularity; ensure the "definition of ready" and "definition of done" are met.
-
Ensure sprint success: ensure accuracy in documentation for backlog refinement sessions, sprint planning, demos, and retrospectives in partnership with project managers.
-
Act as the voice of the customer and partner: referencing strategy artifacts, UX insights, and other relevant materials to ensure product requirements reflect user and business needs while being technically feasible.
-
Proactively manage risks and blockers: anticipate potential delivery obstacles and partner with leads to resolve them early.
-
Continuously improve: look for opportunities to evolve backlog management practices and agile delivery quality.
What We’re Looking For
We want to work with people who are passionate about building great software in collaboration with world-class teams. You should feel comfortable managing multiple time-sensitive projects and helping cross-functional teams achieve clarity and focus.
Ideally, this candidate would have:
-
5+ years of experience in Agile product roles (Product Owner, Technical Product Owner, or similar).
-
Deep experience managing product backlogs and writing/refining user stories for cross-functional software development teams.
-
A solid understanding of software development concepts and processes (you don’t need to code, but you understand how modern systems are built and deployed).
-
Excellent communication skills — you excel at clearly articulating requirements and facilitating team understanding.
-
Strong collaboration mindset: works closely with engineers, designers, product managers, and client stakeholders with empathy and effectiveness.
-
Experience with enterprise software, healthcare experience, platform products, or systems integration is a plus.
-
Experience working in client-facing or agency/consulting environments is strongly preferred.
-
Experience working with generative AI tools and understanding their role in the modern SDLC is a plus.
-
Exceptional organizational and facilitation skills — you keep teams focused, aligned, and continuously improving.
