Lead Product Engineer - MavenAI

Remote

We are defining the future of the Rentals Industry.

ApartmentIQ is a profitable, growing company building the industry's most advanced operating system for multifamily real estate. Last year alone, we shipped three new products — and we're just getting started. We have two category-leading engines: ApartmentIQ, which provides deep market intelligence and data, and Maven, an AI-driven marketing automation platform.

Now, we are combining them.

We are forming a brand new team to build the connective tissue between Intelligence and Action. We are a fully remote group of 100+ spread from coast to coast. We operate on a strict "no a**holes" policy and have built a community of high-performers who take our work seriously, but never ourselves.

While we are backed by $30MM+ from world-class investors, we are profitable, cash-rich, and control our own destiny. We don't incinerate capital; we build products that customers love and rely on.

The Mission: The New Team

You will report directly to the CTO and lead a newly formed team tasked with a massive strategic initiative: uniting the deep data insights of ApartmentIQ with the generative workflow of Maven. You will build and grow a cross-functional team that includes up to four engineers, a product manager, and a designer.

The Product Goal: We are building a system where market data drives immediate action. Instead of static reports, we want our data to do the work. When ApartmentIQ detects a vacancy or a pricing shift, it should trigger Maven to automatically generate and post engaging social media content and instantly update listing availability across the web.

This ensures that prospective renters always have the most accurate, real-time information they need to make quick decisions, while property managers save hours of manual work. You will be the technical architect behind this integration.

The Role

This is not a role where someone else decides what to build and hands you a spec. You’ll go from customer conversation to shipped feature. You’ll look at usage data to figure out what’s working and what isn’t. You’ll make product tradeoff calls alongside your PM and designer, not downstream of them.

We don't just build AI features; we build with AI. We are early adopters of tools like Claude Code and AI-assisted testing and code review. We see these as force multipliers that free engineers to focus on what matters most: high-level architecture, creative problem-solving, and building things that genuinely work. We're looking for engineers who are curious about these tools and eager to push on what's possible — not people who need to be convinced.

How you’ll spend your time:

Building & Shipping (~50%)

  • Hands-on architecture and coding across Rails backends, data pipelines, and React frontends.
  • Design end-to-end flows where real-time market data triggers concrete actions: social posting, listing updates, availability syndication.
  • Own the full stack: the unified interface (React + Tailwind), the API layer (Rails), and the data integrations that power them.
  • Use product analytics, usage data, and direct customer feedback to decide what to build next — not just how to build it.
  • Champion AI-assisted development (Claude Code, automated testing, AI code review) as force multipliers for the team.

Product Strategy & Customer Impact (~30%)

  • Co-own the roadmap in Linear with your PM and designer, balancing customer impact, technical debt, and strategic bets.
  • Participate in customer conversations to understand property manager workflows and pain points firsthand.
  • Define problems — not just solve well-defined ones. Translate ambiguous customer needs into concrete, shippable features.
  • Measure the impact of what you ship: set success metrics, instrument features, and iterate based on real-world results.
  • Partner with Data Science to ensure data freshness and accuracy — renters rely on this data being correct.

Team Leadership (~20%)

  • Lead and grow a team of four engineers. Conduct 1:1s, code reviews, and career development conversations.
  • Help hire two new engineers who share this product-minded approach.
  • Foster a culture of psychological safety, technical rigor, and ownership — where engineers understand the “why” behind their work.
  • Implement automated quality pipelines (style, security, pattern matching) so human review focuses on architecture and product logic.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience shipping data-intensive B2B SaaS, with 2+ years in a Lead or Manager role.
  • A track record of owning product outcomes, not just executing on tickets. You’ve made tradeoff decisions about what to build, not only how.
  • Rails & React Expertise: Deep experience with Ruby on Rails, Sidekiq, and modern React/Tailwind frontends. You know how to build systems that scale.
  • AI-Curious & Tool-Savvy: You see AI-assisted development as a natural evolution of how great software gets built. You have experience (or a genuine enthusiasm) for workflows where AI handles testing and first-pass code reviews.
  • Data Fluency: Proficiency with data storage patterns and an understanding of data ingestion workflows.
  • Pragmatic Agility: You are comfortable writing specs in Linear one minute and debugging a background job the next. You value shipping working code over theoretical perfection.
  • High EQ: You are a collaborative leader who can bridge the gap between technical engineering and product vision.

Why Join This Team?

  • Strategic Impact: This is not a maintenance role. You are building the flagship integration that defines the next chapter of our company, reporting directly to the CTO.
  • Great Tools, No Red Tape: We provide the budget and the freedom to use the best tools available to make your life easier and your code better.
  • Remote-First: We offer the freedom to work from home across most of the U.S. You’ll enjoy the flexibility of remote work, balanced with high-energy in-person offsites to build real connections and celebrate our wins together.
  • Competitive Compensation: We believe in hiring the best and paying accordingly. You’ll receive a competitive salary that reflects your impact and expertise.
  • Paid Time Off: Take the time you need with our flexible vacation policy and dedicated paid parental leave to support you and your family’s biggest milestones.
  • Your Health Matters: Stay healthy with high-quality Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance plans for you and your family.
  • Peace of Mind (On Us): We fully invest in your security with 100% company-paid Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability, and Basic Life Insurance.
  • Protection for Your Whole Crew: Access supplemental insurance for the unexpected, plus specialized coverage to keep your pets happy and healthy, too.
  • Invest in Your Future: Secure your financial goals with our 401k Program, helping you build for the long term while you help us build the company.

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
