Quality Assurance (QA) Lead

Santa Monica OR San Rafael

Summary

We are looking for a highly motivated and detail-oriented, hands-on Quality Assurance (QA) Lead to guide day-to-day testing efforts for our upcoming video game title. In this role, you will combine leadership responsibilities with direct testing work—driving quality across the project by identifying issues, implementing and improving testing practices, and working closely with cross-disciplinary teams. This is a key role in ensuring the game meets our high standards of performance, functionality, and player experience.

Core Responsibilities

  • Own daily QA operations across multiple test areas, including planning, task assignment, and issue prioritization.
  • Work directly in the game to test features, systems, and content across various platforms and development builds.
  • Lead and mentor a small team of in-house and/or outsourced QA testers, setting clear expectations and delivering ongoing feedback.
  • Partner with production, design, engineering, and art teams to triage bugs, clarify issues, and validate fixes.
  • Build and maintain detailed test plans, test cases, and regression sweeps.
  • Champion the player experience by driving usability and edge-case testing.
  • Identify risks, provide test coverage analysis, and help shape the overall quality strategy for the project.
  • Support milestone submissions with thorough smoke and regression testing.
  • Contribute to improving QA tools, workflows, documentation, and standards.

Core Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience in QA for video games, with at least one product cycle in a lead QA role.
  • Experience testing on multiple platforms (PC, console, etc.).
  • Proven ability to lead small teams and coordinate with other departments.
  • Strong bug-writing, test documentation, and communication skills.
  • Solid understanding of the game development cycle and various QA methodologies.
  • Comfortable working in JIRA, TestRail, or similar test case and bug tracking tools.
  • Have informed qualitative opinions on state-of-the-art 3rd person open-world gameplay, coupled with tactful feedback delivery.
  • Ability to adapt in a fast-paced, iterative development environment.
