Dietetic Technician

Position Overview
Works closely with clients, their families, and staff (registered dietitians, therapists, culinary services, and frontline team members). Acts as liaison for the registered dietitian and culinary services to support the execution of registered dietitian prescribed diet orders/meal plans. Utilizes knowledge of nutrition principals to provide basic nutrition education to clients and culinary services. Assists the registered dietitian and basic culinary support as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Communicates all diet orders, allergies/food intolerances and dietary accommodations to the culinary team.
- Collaborates with registered dietitian(s) and culinary services to ensure all diet orders/dietary restrictions/dietary needs prescribed by the registered dietitian are accurately accommodated.
- Assists culinary team with managing dietary accommodations.
- Partners with the culinary team in executing production of individualized client trays per the tray ticket system.
- Provides active meal coaching and support for clients in Therapeutic Supported Meals as assigned.
- Plans, prepares, facilitates assigned nutrition groups and completes documentation of groups provided in the EHR.
- Assists the dietitian in completing a variety of clinical tasks such as daily weight tracking, group preparation, meal plan compliance, and meal planning.
- Supports the culinary team in maintaining the patient pantry with proper labeling of food items with allergy, dietary modification, and proper portioning language (i.e., exchanges, entrée and sides).
- Follows all regulatory and organizational policies and procedures.
- Maintains at all times the confidentiality of former and current Emily Program and Veritas clients’ protected health information, as directed by state and federal law, and Emily Program and Veritas policy.
- Maintains at all times the confidentiality of proprietary information, which includes but is not limited to, trade secrets, sensitive company information, and generally any company information not made available to the public.
- Attends assigned meetings.
- Completes all assigned mandatory trainings.
- Participates in administrative and clinical supervision.
- Seeks supervision when needed.
- Drive clients, staff, and supplies in the company vehicle as needed.
- May provide coverage as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Associate degree in Dietetic Technology or a bachelor’s degree in Nutritional Science or Nutrition is required (registration by the Commission on Dietetic Registration is not required).
- Employees at Residential or Inpatient sites must have a valid driver’s license and be authorized to drive.
- One year of clinical or public health experience preferred.
- Previous eating disorder experience is preferred.
Additional Requirements:
- Employees at Residential or Inpatient sites are required to have a current Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire.
- Employees at Residential or Inpatient are required to have a current First Aid certification within 30 days of hire.
- Employees at residential or inpatient sites in North Carolina or Georgia are required to have a current CPI certification within 30 days of hire
- ServSafe Food Handler certification required (Washington State Department of Health Food Handler permit required in leu of ServSafe Food Handler for Dietetic Technicians practicing in Washington)
Workplace Environment:
- Standing 60-65% and Sitting 35-40%
- Bending, twisting, kneeling, stooping or crouching when appropriate, on occasion
- Lift, carry, push or pull up to approx. 40 pounds (supplies, etc.)
