About the Team

ACCEL Schools is seeking a qualified and dependable Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Student Services team at Banning Lewis Ranch Academy in Colorado Springs, CO. The successful candidate must hold a current Colorado RN license and be licensed as a Special Service Provider: School Nurse or be eligible to obtain this credential upon employment.

This position is primarily responsible for providing one-on-one direct care to a student, ensuring the student’s health, safety, and ability to access educational opportunities throughout the school day. When individualized care is not required, the RN will provide support to the K–12 nursing team across both campuses as needed.

About the Opportunity:

The following statements of essential functions and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. These statements are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required of all personnel within this position. Actual duties and responsibilities may vary depending on building assignment and other factors. 

  • Deliver individualized and compassionate care to a student with complex medical needs in the school setting.
  • Perform G-tube feedings and other nursing procedures within the RN scope of practice.
  • Assist the student with activities of daily living (ADLs), including toileting, hygiene, mobility, positioning, and changing services.
  • Monitor the student’s health status and respond promptly to changes or medical emergencies.
  • Provide emergency care and first aid for acutely ill or injured students and staff.
  • Develop and implement individualized student health care plans based on assessment, interventions, and evaluation of outcomes for students with chronic health conditions or special needs.
  • Monitor immunizations, manage communicable disease and infection control measures, and assess the school environment to promote safety and prevent injury.
  • Coordinate and maintain individual student health records in accordance with district policy and state requirements.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential health documentation in compliance with state, district, and regulatory standards.
  • Coordinate and participate in mandated hearing and vision screenings as required by the Colorado Department of Education.
  • Ensure timely monthly submission of Medicaid billing for eligible student health services.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, staff, and healthcare providers to ensure continuity of care.
  • Communicate student health needs to appropriate school staff on a “need-to-know” basis, maintaining confidentiality at all times.
  • Collaborate with Special Education, MTSS, and 504 teams to support students with identified health needs.
  • Serve as a consultant to departments such as Nutrition Services, Transportation, Counseling, Physical Education, and Administration.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with students, families, and community partners; assist families in accessing external healthcare resources.
  • Oversee and coordinate all health services-related staff trainings, including medication administration, standard precautions, CPR/AED/First Aid, concussion management, and disease prevention.
  • Supervise and support Health Room Assistants to ensure competency in delegated health services, including medication administration and first aid.
  • Collaborate with school administration in evaluating health assistant performance.
  • Provide guidance and health education to students and staff in areas such as chronic illness, communicable disease prevention, mental health, nutrition, obesity, injury prevention, and substance abuse.
  • Provide general nursing services, health education, and emergency response as part of the school’s K–12 health services team.
  • Pursue ongoing professional development to maintain current nursing knowledge and best practices.
  • Adhere to district personnel policies and procedures.
  • Maintain and submit accurate records and reports as required by administration and the nursing team.
  • Fulfill assigned duties and attend required meetings as scheduled.
  • Demonstrate initiative and a willingness to contribute beyond the defined scope of duties when appropriate.

About You:

  • Current, valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Colorado (required).
  • Current or eligible for Special Service Provider (SSP): School Nurse License in Colorado.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification (required).
  • Valid Colorado driver’s license (required).
  • Criminal background check required prior to hire.
  • Experience in pediatric, community health, or school-based nursing
  • Knowledge and experience with G-tube management
  • Strong clinical assessment, critical-thinking, and problem-solving
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal
  • Strong customer service and public relations skills with a student-centered, professional approach.
  • Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and other standard computer software.
  • Reliable, punctual, flexible, and able to adapt to changing school and student needs.

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation and benefits information below is accurate as of the date of this posting. The Company reserves the right to modify this information at any time, with or without notice, subject to applicable law.

The annual starting salary for this position is $55,000.  Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate. 

We offer the following benefits for full-time positions, subject to applicable eligibility requirements: medical insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, 401(k) retirement plan, life insurance, long-term disability insurance, short-term disability insurance, 10 paid holidays annually. All eligible employees will participate in Colorado’s Family & Medical Leave Insurance Program, in accordance with state law. 

Paid Time Off: The amount of Paid Time Off (PTO) employees accrue is determined by both their position and the length of their employment term. Employees could accrue up to 10 days of paid time off for 10-month roles, 11 days of paid time off for 11-month roles and 15 days of paid time off for 12-month roles. 

We offer several plans to choose from, with a wide range of deductibles and co- insurance levels. We offer plans with set co-pays for certain medical services, as well as a high deductible plan with set co-insurance levels after deductibles have been met. All plans offer both in-network and out-of-network coverage. We also offer flexible spending and health savings accounts.
