SAP Acquire to Retire (A2R) Client SME
The work:
The SAP Acquire to Retire Client SME serves as the primary Acquire to Retire (A2R) Subject Matter Expert for federal client S/4HANA implementations. This role is responsible for ensuring that the Asset Management and Project Systems solution align with Federal Financial Management Modernization (FMM) and Audit Readiness (FIAR) mandates. The SME leads the design for tracking, valuing, and reporting on client capital assets—ranging from ships and aircraft to shore infrastructure—ensuring full transparency from initial appropriation to final disposal. The A2R SME is responsible for guiding the design of compliant asset structures and capital project integration.
Key responsibilities:
- Advise on client Asset Classification, ensuring the design of Asset Accounting (FI-AA) categories supports specific requirements for Real Property, General Equipment, and Internal Use Software
- Master Capital Project Execution, architecting the Project Systems (PS) structure to support client Construction in Progress (CIP) and Assets under Construction (AuC), ensuring costs are accurately captured and settled
- Govern Budgetary Integration, ensuring asset acquisitions and capital improvements correctly interface with Funds Management (FM) using the Standard Line of Accounting (SLOA)
- Enforce Existence and Completeness (E&C), designing processes that satisfy FIAR requirements for the physical verification of client's property and the "Book-to-Floor" audit trail
- Lead "Fit-to-Standard" Workshops for client Facilities/Logistics, translating specific asset business rules into standard S/4HANA processes while maintaining compliance with SFFAS (Federal Accounting Standards)
- Oversee Integration with client Property Systems, managing the functional design of interfaces between S/4HANA and external systems such as iNFADS (Real Property), DPAS, or legacy client ERP asset modules
- Guide Asset Valuation & Depreciation, configuring depreciation keys and valuation areas that align with client financial policy for both General Fund and Working Capital Fund assets
- Manage Asset Disposal and Transfer, designing workflows for the retirement, transfer, or donation of client property, ensuring accurate removal from the financial books and appropriate reporting to GSA where required
- Serve as a Trusted Advisor to Asset Managers, providing expert guidance on how S/4HANA can provide a "Single Source of Truth" for client property, reducing data reconciliation between logistics and finance
- Mentor Functional Consultants, providing training on client-specific asset nomenclature (e.g., Plant Account, Custodian, UIC) and the unique requirements of client System Commands
- Drive Audit Resolution, assisting stakeholders in identifying and remediating "Findings and Recommendations" (F&Rs) from Independent Public Accountants (IPAs) related to asset reporting
Here’s what you need:
- 7+ years of experience in SAP FI-AA and PS, with a deep understanding of S/4HANA's Universal Journal and the integration with Funds Management (FM)
- Subject Matter Expertise in Asset Management, including familiarity with Financial Management Policy Manual (FMPM) and Real Property/General Equipment regulations
- Strong understanding of FIAR (Financial Improvement and Audit Readiness) protocols as they apply to property, plant, and equipment
Nice to have:
- Experience in Federal/DoD ERP Implementations, specifically managing the complex lifecycle of "Capitalized vs. Expensed" assets
- Familiarity with federal-specific asset systems (e.g., iNFADS, DPAS, STARS) and their integration points with S/4HANA
- Bachelor's degree in a related field
Eligibility requirements:
- US Citizen (no dual citizenship)
- Must be eligible to obtain a government Secret Clearance
- Willingness to travel up to 25%
