
Artist & Influencer Engagement Strategist
ABOUT THE JOB
The ACLU seeks applicants for the full-time position of Artist & Influencer Engagement Strategist in the Marketing & Communications of the ACLU’s National office in New York, NY. This is a hybrid role that has in-office requirements of two (2) days per week or eight (8) days per month.
The ACLU Marketing & Communications Department creates, maintains, and expands message narratives to engage our supporters and other target audiences, to help protect and expand civil liberties and civil rights, and also illustrate the value and impact of the ACLU’s transformational work. Through our messaging, engagement with newsmakers, our written content, creative branding, and visual identity, we encourage support for the ACLU and help to build a more perfect union.
This position is part of a collective bargaining unit. It is represented by ACLU Staff United (ASU).
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Reporting to the National Director of Artist & Entertainment Engagement the Artist & Influencer Engagement Strategist will develop influencer/digital content creator engagement strategies to support the ACLU’s Marketing & Communications Goals, project manage the implementation of these strategies and track the ROI of the team’s engagements. They will also support the National Director of Artist & Entertainment Engagement in implementing strategies tailored to creative artists and entertainment companies. Across these engagements, they will partner with the Communications Strategists to ensure consistency of ACLU messaging and goals.
YOUR DAY TO DAY
- Collaborate with Communications Strategists and Marketing & Communications colleagues to create and update messaging materials for influencers, artists, and celebrity ambassadors. Package these materials for issue briefings and content requests.
- Develop and execute influencer and content creator engagement strategies that align with organizational priorities. Work cross-functionally to bring these strategies to life across social media, multimedia, and in-person campaigns.
- Lead the identification, vetting, and cultivation of long-term relationships with mission-aligned influencers, creator agencies, and select artists.
- Partner with Strategic Communications, Social Media, Storytelling, and Multimedia teams to conceptualize and manage artist and influencer deliverables—including social toolkits, content briefs, and multimedia assets.
- Use tools such as Meltwater and Klear to monitor and analyze the impact of influencer initiatives. Share results, learnings, and best practices with internal stakeholders; ensure consistency in tracking and reporting.
- Stay current on ACLU issue areas and regularly connect with Communications Strategists and other departments to align artist and influencer engagement efforts with broader organizational work.
- Supervise Artist & Influencer Engagement interns, including goal-setting, project oversight, and weekly check-ins. Create and maintain materials that showcase the ACLU’s influencer and artist engagement work for both national and affiliate teams. Educate internal stakeholders on best practices for leveraging these relationships.
- Project manage creative marketing initiatives, events, and activations—ensuring timelines, budgets, and deliverables stay on track under the direction of the Director of Artist & Entertainment Engagement.
- Maintain and manage internal databases of influencer rosters, engagement calendars, and campaign documentation.
- Support internal departments in identifying and securing influencer or artist partners for their events and initiatives. Provide strategic guidance on programming and content integration.
- Facilitate pro bono and volunteer opportunities, as well as commercial sales promotions (CSPs), in collaboration with entertainment partners and with the guidance of General Counsel to ensure compliance and brand alignment.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING
- Extensive Experience in influencer marketing/communications/strategy; non-profit communications/strategy/marketing; influencer or artist engagement with a social impact focus.
- Proven track record of working directly with high-profile talent, influencers, and entertainment partners on mission-driven or advocacy-aligned campaigns.
- Experience developing and project managing multi-channel artist or influencer communications initiatives from concept through execution.
- Strong understanding of the entertainment and social media landscape, including trends in film, television, music, and creator culture.
- Ability to translate complex advocacy and legal issues into accessible messaging for external partners.
- High emotional intelligence and discretion in working with artists, influencers, and their teams.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to manage multiple projects independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including clear writing, thoughtful presentation, and professional phone/email etiquette.
- Experience creating and analyzing social media content tailored for artists and influencers, including familiarity with performance metrics and audience insights.
- Comfortable working cross-functionally with internal teams to align storytelling, communications, and campaign strategies.
- Experience supervising interns or junior staff, including project delegation and mentorship.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), major social media platforms, and analytics/monitoring tools such as Meltwater and influencer platforms like Klear.
- Absolute discretion with confidential information related to influencers, artists, and organizational operations.
