
Senior Digital Support Strategist
ABOUT THE JOB
The ACLU seeks applicants for the full-time position of Senior Digital Support Strategist in the Communications and Marketing Department of the ACLU’s National office in New York, NY. The purpose of this role is to centralize coordination and collaboration for special projects led by the department. This is a hybrid role that has in-office requirements of two (2) days per week or eight (8) days per month.
The ACLU Marketing & Communications Department creates, maintains, and expands message narratives to engage our supporters and other target audiences, to help protect and expand civil liberties and civil rights, and illustrate the value and impact of the ACLU’s work. Through our messaging, engagement with newsmakers, our written and social content, branding, and visual identity, we encourage support for the ACLU and help to create a more perfect union.
This position is part of a collective bargaining unit. It is represented by ACLU Staff United (ASU).
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Reporting to the Head of Owned Digital Engagement, the Senior Digital Support Strategist will be responsible for owning the expanding portfolio of work related to our rapid response digital ecosystem.
Working alongside both the Digital Campaigns and Web Strategy teams, the Senior Digital Support Strategist will be an essential strategic thinker, content producer, and backend technologist capable of easing friction during rapid response moments and increasing capacity otherwise.
Working most directly with issue-specific communications and program strategists, this role will be tasked with working with vendors, overseeing digital projects and campaigns, analyzing metrics and providing strategic thought partnership that ladders up to our overall program goals.
YOUR DAY TO DAY
Digital Strategy
- Partner with the Director of Web Strategy and the PTECH team to develop new tools and content strategies to promote and expand the ACLU’s web presence.
- This role will specifically own the content and strategy responsibilities related to the new Moments tool.
- Partner with the Communications Strategists to identify digital opportunities, build and scale communications plans across the ACLU ecosystem, and deliver innovative ideas and techniques that help brand penetration and message salience.
- Provide strategic advice, recommendations, and insights within the Communications & Marketing department and across the ACLU ecosystem that inform decision-making and drive digital success, especially in rapid response moments.
- Provide strategic guidance and support within the Communications & Marketing department and across the ACLU ecosystem about how to manage our audience’s experiences across the digital environment, and how to advance our audience up the digital engagement ladder.
Project Management
- Provide Owned Digital Engagement project support – leading and monitoring the scope, communication, and progress of projects as directed by the Head of Digital Engagement.
- Collaborate with the Web Strategy and Analytics teams to track, analyze, and report on metrics related to new projects, initiatives, and digital tools.
- Serve as the ODE representative in ACLU rapid response working groups as needed.
- Collaborate with stakeholders at all levels to design solutions to improve processes and operations at the team, departmental, and/or organization level.
- Coordinate with internal teams and external vendors to ensure web, text and email production are executed to plan.
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with external agencies, vendors, and contractors to augment internal capabilities and manage specialized projects, ensuring delivery of high-quality work that meets the organization’s standards and requirements.
- Support weekend schedule strategic decision making – including off-hours work, as needed, for live coverage of high-priority events or rapid response moments.
- Partner with the Directors of Web Strategy and Digital Campaigns to integrate yourself within their coverage calendars while being trained on all backend systems and needs.
Leadership & Growth
- Lead and champion team members – supporting professional development and growth, giving routine feedback, and ensuring work is of high-quality and high-impact.
- Support efforts to recruit staff and further strengthen the team and department.
- Demonstrate an ability to be flexible and adjust priorities as necessary to adapt to changing external environments.
- Engage in special projects and other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING
- Demonstrated experience in Owned Digital Engagement, with a focus on strategic planning, operations, and project management.
- Demonstrated experience managing large projects, vendors or staff with the ability to establish priorities that will effectively utilize the staff’s time and the department’s resources.
- Strong project management skills including the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, clearly communicate progress and address issues while still meeting required deadlines.
- Strong ability to collaborate with internal groups and outside vendors, supervise processes, and maintain integrity of organizational standards.
- Critical thinker with demonstrated problem-solving skills and the ability to make independent decisions.
- Comfort working in a complex environment with multiple and at times competing priorities and goals.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to adapt and quickly adjust in response to changing priorities.
- Familiarity with a range of online publishing tools, tactics and strategies.
- Excellent verbal, writing and interpersonal communication skills.
- Excellent relationship building skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Extensive professional communications experience as outlined above is strongly preferred
