Fall 2025 Undergraduate Intern, National Political Advocacy Department- Political Organizer
The ACLU seeks an Undergraduate Intern in the National Political Advocacy Department's (NPAD) Organizing and Mobilization team of the National ACLU Office in Washington D.C. This is a Remote or Hybrid position and can be full-time or part-time. Intern is required to be based in the U.S.
The Team:
The National Political Advocacy Department (NPAD) builds power to achieve an accountable, representative democracy. We have ambitious goals across Reproductive Freedom, Democracy and Voting Rights, Systemic Equality, Immigration, Trans Justice, Criminal Justice and other core issues to protect and expand civil rights and civil liberties, and advance the freedom, equality, ability to prosper, and humanity of all People.
Our department conducts analysis, develops policy, crafts world class campaigns and situates the ACLU to have impact across legislative, administrative, and electoral levers. We are policy experts, lawyers, community organizers, lobbyists, campaign strategists, electoral specialists, program managers and more. We partner across the ACLU to drive national efforts, and support and amplify the priorities of our affiliates. We work to center principles of equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging in our approach.
What You'll Do:
This intern will work closely with ACLU’s People Power program, engaging with grassroots volunteers and supporting civic engagement and mobilization efforts ahead of the 2024–25 political cycle.
This internship is an excellent opportunity for students who are interested in grassroots organizing, social justice advocacy, volunteer engagement, and campaign strategy. Interns will gain real-world experience working on impactful campaigns with a national civil liberties organization, while also developing their leadership, organizing, and communications skills.
Your Day to Day
- Engage with ACLU People Power volunteers by providing direct support, building relationships, and helping to facilitate their leadership development.
- Participate in both volunteer- and staff-facing trainings and webinars to learn and contribute to foundational organizing skills.
- Draft written content for ACLU campaigns, including email copy, text scripts, talking points, and internal planning materials.
- Collaborate with and support a diverse and inclusive team of staff and volunteers, helping to build a positive, respectful, and effective team culture.
- Support campaign tracking and reporting efforts by assisting with data entry, analytics, and the preparation of internal progress reports.
- Provide administrative support for team meetings, digital events, and organizing efforts, including note-taking, scheduling, and organizing digital files.
What You'll Bring:
- Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university.
- A strong commitment to civil liberties, civil rights, and the mission of the ACLU.
- Prior experience in organizing, activism, or campaign work is a plus but not required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, team-based environment.
- Ability to manage time well, meet deadlines, and balance multiple priorities.
- Familiarity with digital organizing platforms (e.g., Zoom, Mobilize, Slack, Action Network) is a plus.

Internship Logistics:
- Location: Our internship program offers a limited number of remote or hybrid intern positions. This internship is Remote or Hybrid from our Washington D.C. National office.
- Time Commitment: Part-time (20 hours/week) or Full-time (35 hours/week).
- Internship Duration: Full-time internships span 10 consecutive weeks and part-time 12 weeks. This internship has a start date of: September 9th or September 23rd
- Stipend: A stipend is available for students who are lawfully authorized to work. Arrangements can be made with educational institutions for work/study or course credit.
