Director of Administration

The ACLU of Northern California is an enduring guardian of justice, fairness, equality, and freedom, working to protect and advance civil rights and civil liberties for all Californians.
We’re looking for a Director of Administration to be directly responsible for the organization’s operations and administration so that the ACLU NorCal can achieve maximum programmatic impact for civil liberties and civil rights. This role is both a director and a do-er, overseeing major functions and directly carrying out areas of work from strategy to implementation. This management position is not represented.

What You Will Do
- Provide hands-on oversight of administrative, facilities, procurement, and operational functions for all offices, supervise a team of staff across these functions and serve as lead staff managing outside service providers.
- Provide big picture oversight of the management of the human resources program, including collective bargaining and labor union relations through supervision of the HR Manager to ensure rights of employees in the union and provide for effective management.
- Ensure that IT infrastructure is aligned with organizational and staffing needs
- Guide business technology decisions, purchasing and project implementations
- Work closely with General Counsel and Finance to ensure organizational compliance and risk management.
- Collaborate across organizational leadership to promote organizational cultural initiatives and policies to improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the organization.
What You Will Bring
- 10+ years of experience in leading a department or in organization-wide management and administration, including 5 years in a supervisory role.
- Experience creating effective processes, systems, and structures.
- Strategic and solutions-oriented thinker, with superior project management skills. Takes pride in the quality of work and exceptional level of attention to detail.
- Excellent judgment, tact and diplomacy
- Passionate about workplace inclusion, equity, and leadership development.

- The salary range for this position is $170,300 - $228,500 with the final amount depending on experience, skills, and qualifications.
