ACT Power Services, a national Solar Power Operations & Maintenance Provider, is seeking a skilled and safety-conscious High Voltage/Medium Voltage (HV/MV) Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electrical systems, with expertise in the installation, maintenance, testing, and repair of HV/MV electrical equipment and systems. This is a hands-on role that plays a critical part in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of a solar power plant’s infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Perform installation, maintenance, and repair of HV/MV electrical systems (typically 5kV – 35kV and above).
- Conduct electrical testing of transformers, switchgear, breakers, relays, and protective devices.
- Perform cable splicing and terminations in accordance with industry standards.
- Troubleshoot electrical faults and perform root cause analysis.
- Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance activities, inspections, and test results.
- Assist in energizing new or repaired systems following strict safety protocols.
- Comply with all OSHA, NEC, NFPA 70E, and company safety standards.
- Support system upgrades, outages, and emergency repairs as needed.
- Collaborate with engineers and project managers to ensure projects meet specifications and timelines.
Requirements
Required:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum 3–5 years of relevant experience working with HV/MV systems.
- Knowledge of electrical theory, protective relaying, and power system operations.
- Proficiency in using electrical test equipment (e.g., Multimeters, Megger, Doble, HiPot, TTR, etc.).
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites.
Preferred:
- Technical certificate or associate degree in Electrical Technology or related field.
- OSHA 30 certification and NFPA 70E training.
- NETA or equivalent testing certification is a plus.
- Experience with substation and transmission system maintenance.
- Certificate for medium voltage cable terminations and splices.
Physical Requirements/Work Environment:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Comfortable working in confined spaces, heights, and around energized equipment.
- Must be able to wear appropriate PPE including arc flash suits.
