Position Overview

The Des Moines actuarial model development team is responsible for building and maintaining the actuarial models for Life products at Global Atlantic. We ensure that the models are fit for purpose to satisfy our company’s financial reporting needs, meet auditor/regulatory requirements, and facilitate accurate and informed decision making by senior management.

Depending on your level of experience/progress through the student program, your involvement with our team’s key responsibilities will range from assisting a more senior team member, to full ownership of individual projects and core job functions.

RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Maintain and prepare actuarial models for GAAP (SOP, F133, DAC/VOBA, etc.), Statutory (Economic reserve, VM20, and CRVM formulaic reserve), and Internal financial reporting.
  • Research, design, and implement model improvements and assumption updates as part of our quarterly model change process.
  • Perform annual cashflow testing for Life products managed by the Des Moines team.
  • Provide modeling support for data transformation, new deal on-boarding, and other major company initiatives.
  • Respond to adhoc requests or questions from various sources, such as senior management or auditors/regulators.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
  • Basic computer and technical skills (Excel, Word, etc.).
  • Strong organization and communication skills.
  • Supplementary skills include programming, version control, and database management.

Skills and experience you will gain in this role:

  • Mastery of MG-ALFA actuarial modeling software.
  • In-depth understanding of best practices regarding model changes and model risk management.
  • Expertise in analyzing financial results through a combination of technical knowledge, conceptual insights, and hands-on testing.
  • Familiarity with a large variety of financial reporting requirements and reporting basis, especially as it pertains to Life products.
  • Proficiency with VBA, SAS, and Python.
